Living The Crucifixion - April 18 2014 (Good Friday) sermon

When I came to you, brothers and sisters, I did not come proclaiming the mystery of God to you in lofty words or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I came to you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling. My speech and my proclamation were not with plausible words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God.  (1 Corinthians 2:1-5, NRSV)

Eood banks pick up where others leave off

Why do we have food banks? It’s a question a lot of people ask.

There was a day when we didn’t have food banks and it’s within my living memory.

What changed?

Some new research by a researcher at Sheffield University in the UK shows a clear connection between social assistance payments and food bank use.

Are election reforms fixing what's not broken?

Have you ever seen election fraud in Canada?

I have never seen it, but I have heard of it.

One of my family stories involved my grandfather, a provincial election, and the province of Quebec.

Many years ago, my grandparents were one of six English families who lived in the Quebec village of St. Eustache, outside of Montreal.

A UU Online Ministry

I have been recently starting to follow the online ministry of Unitarian Universalist minister Rev. Naomi King. She has a wonderful ministry spread across a number of social media, including Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Typepad. Rev. King is a UU, but clearly comes from a more spiritual side of the tradition so I think non-UUs may find something of value in her work as well. Certainly thought some around here might enjoy hearing about what she does.

A Journey Through ... - March 30 2014 sermon

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely Your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. (Psalm 23:1-6)
