I just finished reading The Shack by William P Young, which tells the story of a man who spends a weekend with God, in the place where his young daughter was murdered. As I read this book, I was so overwhelmed with some of the amazing suggestions it held. Suggestions of God, and Heaven, the life we lead and how the Bible's words were meant to be taken. Much of it went straight over my head, and I will read this book again in the future I am sure.
Thinking of it now this book as resembled a bit of a landslide to me. In talking with friends, and in reading it myself...it's one of those things that seem to take the world by storm you know. It starts by one of your friends mentioning how great it was, and then you can pretty much sit back and watch it get bigger and bigger until finally it's this global thing. You know like FRIENDS, downloading music, Twilight.
I'm pretty much sure that The Shack is going to do just the same. Only it will actually change opinions and outlooks in the process. I have a continuously growing number of friends and acquaintances who have reviewed this book as great, amazing. That they loved it, so when I picked it up I had no small expectations for it.
It blew my expectations out of the water. Although parts of it went over my head, and parts of it were terribly heartbreaking...overall this book left a sense of peace and hope with it's last page.
This book gives a fresh look at how we define God, love, forgiveness, religion...life. The Shack completely challenges everything that we strive for in our relationship with God and with religion. Although it is not an end all, be all...as nothing truly can be, it is another way to look at everything we try to understand. Another set of eyes if you will, to find that missing piece.
Overall I really enjoyed this book...and I recommend it to anyone, religious or not.

Could you call The Shack an out-of-body solipsism (experience)? That is the nature of a cultivated realm of the mind ... where alien ideas come from. Modern efforts have dumbed down this are, so we don't see what "theocracies" are doing to us! Can theocracy be corrupted? Read the strings ... there are suggestions ... string theory?
Ides just a wee myth! Something to probe the depths of the thinking pool, dark as sepia ... a metaphor?

My minister recommended this book to me, I really enjoyed it and couldn't put it down. One notable thing - it helped me understand the Trinity better. It was an easy read in some ways but I'll definitely want to read it again, as some of the ideas challenged me.
I think I know what you're talking about Waterbuoy but I'm not capable of answering. What are the strings? what exactly is theocracy? I do know we can't believe everything we read.

I am in agreement with you. When I first read Waterbuoy's comment I had to try and wrap my head around it. Not sure I'm completely with you on that.
But as for understanding the Trinity I can for sure say I agree. Although it is just one take on everything that we have come to know as God, and faith...I think it is a pretty good way to look at things. Yes it may be a simple read but the amount of knowledge and ideas in it more than makes us. It gets you thinking about things, and helps you to understand somethings to I think. Not everything is cleared up, and much is left up to our own discretion and understanding of the Bible but....it helps in some ways.

Men are NOT supposed to cry on the bus.
And that's all I can say about that!
