So, I don't hang out on many other forums, but I do spend a lot of time at The Leaky Cauldron - 'the' Harry Potter news site. They have a forum called The Leaky Lounge, and I've been going through series one book at a time with their Lily & Stag Inn reading groups. Every month they hold a little contest. May's was coming up with riddles - the winning ones were great. June's was a writing one - they asked us to write a diary entry from one of the adult members of the Order of the Phoenix, after the Battle of Hogwarts in the Half Blood Prince (not the final book). I thought it looked interesting, so I tried my quill.
I won first place! It was so fun to do that by the time I'd submitted it, I really didn't care if it won anything. And now, I get a cute little "Contest Winner" button under my avatar as well as winning a custom wand from an American wand maker. How cool is that??
It's amusing that something so small can make my day so bright. A little bit of creative writing never hurt anyone, it seems!

Congratulations, Farren!
Yes, a little bit of creative writing never hurt anyone. It is good for body and soul. Writing makes me forget the aches and pains of old age.

Farren, that is really cool. Congratulations!
And it must be cool to have your very own wand.
Have you put it to use yet?
