Moving with the Spirit

It's been a long time - again - since I blogged. LIfe often takes us on twists and turns that we least expect. That happened this year, in a big way. In July I saw a vacancy posted at Humber United in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. By mid-August I had said yes. It had to be the shortest search in the history of the church.

On November 7th, I said farewell to my congregation of five years, Glen Ayr United in Scarborough. What started as a one-year supply had stretched over five years, and many changes. It was a wonderful farewell, and a wonderful end to a good chapter.

On November 8th, I began the drive from Scarborough to Newfoundland. I love driving alone, and it was good to be on the road again. Through Quebec where I stopped in Trois-Rivieres, into New Brunswick where I stopped in Fredericton, Nova Scotia on Cape Breton Island - and then the ferry ride to Channel-Port-aux-Basques,  a final drive to Corner Brook - and the first Sunday here was November 14. I have a lovely home overlooking the city, and already feel "at home".

This was a big risk. My husband and I have discussed often in the last couple of years, the need to get out and do some different things while we are still able. He teaches in Cuba part of the year. So we decided that we can tackle this challenge as well.

But it needed willingness to take a risk, faith that there was a good reason for the way this happened, and the speed - and hope in a future as yet unknown. Risk is something churches fear - because it means doing something unfamiliar and new, and not being able to be sure of the outcome. For me, of course, that's the beauty of the whole thing - NOT knowing what will happen -  living the experience. - and trusting in the Spirit.
