Church of the Larger Fellowship

Since I know there are some here who are interested in Unitarian Universalism, I thought I would throw out a couple links that are quite helpful in seeing some of the breadth and diversity of "The Chosen Faith" (as it was termed in a book many years back).

Both belong to The Church of the Larger Fellowship. CLF provides a "church" to persons who do not have a UU congregation in their area or cannot get the one nearest them. There are also some who prefer it to their local church for various reasons (not a good situation, but it happens). CLF has also assisted in getting churches started when a number of their members are geographically close enough to start meeting in person. The CLF has a ministry team, student ministers who intern with them, and so on. The CLF does include Canadians in its mission and membership. At this point, there is no separate online church for Canada.

The CLF traces its history back to the early twentieth century when Unitarians used the post to send materials to members in remote areas with no local church. In the 1940s, the Unitarians and Universalists each had a Church of the Larger Fellowship. The two CLFs merged when the parent denominations merged in 1961. Until 1999, most of their work was done by mail. Since then, they have moved online, creating an online church that has live streamed services, an online magazine and newsletters, and so on.

www.clfuu.org is their main site and provides information about the organization.

www.questionformeaning.org provides sermons, readings, and hosts their online services on Sunday and Monday. If you want some interesting reading about UU views on various topics (God, Prayer, Salvation, etc.), go to the Reflecting section and then into the Monthly Themes. Each theme includes sermons and essays on the theme, often with some prayer or poetry salted in. The writers vary a bit but the minister of the CLF will always have something as does their RE director.

So, if you're interested in UU'ism or are one of those who wants to be affiliated with UU'ism but doesn't have a UU church nearby, this is a place where you can get at least some connection with a UU community. It may even help you find like-minded folks in your area.
