I’ve been meeting for the past two days with the committee planning the 41st General Council in Ottawa this August, and I’m very excited about what’s taking shape. Tomorrow morning I head to Tatamagouche Centre in Nova Scotia to lead a ‘Soul, Community and Creation’ retreat. Monica Graham’s story in today’s Halifax Chronicle Herald has captured some important insights about how I have come to understand the relationship between these three:

Mardi, when you mentioned that the healing of one affects the healing of the other, I was reminded of Zoe's work for the summer of co-directing Camp Outlook out of Kingston. They take at risk youth on interior camping trips into Algonquin Park. From what she told me of her experiences last year with these youth, it is indeed a healing time, as they reconnect with creation in this very simple hands on way. It is also a fascinatingly "flat" organization and all volunteers. It's a powerful way to build relationships with others and God's creation.
Blessings, on your upcoming retreat and also as you prepare to facilitate the meeting of General Council in August.

This is such a wonderful example, Lynn!
At Tatamagouche I heard about another similar program with young men who've been in trouble... taking them on retreats on the land has helped them rediscover their soul and ability to function in community.
Thank you so much for your wisdom, your ongoing support and prayers...
