Mardi: I have read your blog carefully. I wish we could have a discussion about hope and how we in the United Church can support the hope of Nuha. I believe that comes out of our church working with commitment and passion towards justice for the Palestinians which is the only way there will be security for the Jewish people of Israel.
I don't know if you visited the remnants of the village of El Araqib - land which the Bedouin claim. 18 times since July Israeli soldiers have destoryed this village. Now the Israeli government is preparing legal action to recover 1 million shekels from these people to pay for the costs of destroying their homes.
In your Lenten video you have images of this village. The video has many images of Palestinians and is well done from that point of view. But people who are very familiar with the situation in Israel and Palestine would not realize this as there are no words identifying what we are seeing.
As you call us to remember during Lent, let us remember the long struggle in South Africa which brought an end to apartheid. Let us remember how our church supported the struggle for justice on the part of black South Africans. And let's get working on concrete ways in which we can be part of working for justice in Israel and Palestine. Marianna
