Our lenten texts call us to the discipline of renouncement.  They speak to the Buddhist idea of detachment. They speak to the spirituality of freedom- a new understanding of sacrifice, where the cross is not blood sacrifice.

What does it mean to witness?  Paul lays out his mission to preach the Kingdom of God. In the passage from Mark,  we read of the beginning of Jesus mission to preach the kingdom of God.   Paul speaks of an obligation to preach the Kingdom.  Jesus creates a community to witness to the Kingdom.

Driving out Demons?   What are we to make of this?  In our modern world we have had many theological debates over the term.  For some it refers to some psychological problem - or illness, to explain away the word.   In doing so we can rob it of its metaphorical meaning and what it could mean to us.
