A New Old-Fashioned Pentecost Hymn

Pentecost is this upcoming Sunday (May 27).  I always enjoy our celebration of it, especially here at Forest Hill United where we celebrate with lots of Holy Spirit hymns and communion.

For this week's service, I have written most of the words to an old familiar hymn Holy Spirit, Hear Us (which is #377 in Voices United).  I wanted to use it as a communion hymn so this is what I came up with.  The first verse is the original by William H. Parker.  The latter verses were written by me.  If it is helpful to you, feel free to use it.

Holy Spirit, hear us,
help us while we sing;
breathe into the music
of the praise we bring.

Holy Spirit, shine now
in this holy place;
blow across our table;
fill it with God's grace.

Holy Spirit, feed us
with the bread and wine;
may we all be nourished
in our feasting time.

Holy Spirit, send us
back into the street;
may we be empowered to
be Christ's hands and feet.
