Angels or Aliens - you decide

Are there aliens in the Bible?

UFO conspiracy theorists often make the argument that Bronze Age biblical authors had no understanding of modern technology and, in ignorance, could only describe miracles and apparitions as the work of gods and angels.

The doctrine of "panspermia", the idea that life was created or manipulated by aliens is substantiated by the myths and legends of every ancient culture on the earth. The writings and images left behind by the ancient Greeks, the Egyptians, the Hindus, the South Sea Islanders, the American Indians, and virtually all the others raise interesting questions. And the Old Testament has some very compelling references in its source material.

Indeed, up until the 4th Century's "Sons of Seth" heresy the early church taught and fully understood that fallen angels had mated through humans. The strange events recorded in Genesis 6 were understood by ancient rabbinical sources, as well as the Septuagint translators (the name given to the Greek translation of the Jewish Scriptures 300-200 BC), as referring to fallen angels procreating hybrid offspring with human women called the "Nephilim".

Ephesians 6:12 passage stated that violent angelic enemies of mankind occupy the heavens. "Outer space" may seem a slight stretch, but Strong's Greek translation of Eph 6:12's "high places" ("above the sky, celestial..." above) would include this realm.

The book of the Jubilees remarks that Jared or Yeh-red, an Old Testament patriarch, was so called because in his days the angels descended upon the earth. Yaw-rad means "descend". It is interesting to note that Jordan comes from that same root word denoting "descent, coming down or falling" and Yar-dane is "the place of the descent".

Revelation 12:7-8 "˜And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.'

Just what are angels? The Bible says angels are "ministering spirits" (Hebrews 1:14). They are beings of a different nature than humans, but created by God and for God. It describes how they sometimes act, how they sometimes appear. It also details what they sometimes do. If one studies all the passages in the Bible that mention angels, one will see that the angel is a very powerful being that can:
1.) Appear as normal human beings, undetected (Genesis 19:1-29, Hebrews 13:2)
2.) Appear as bright, shinning beings that terrify those who see them (Matthew 28:2-7)
4.) Appear to animals, but invisible to humans (Numbers 22:21-40)
6.) Appear in flames of fire (Exodus 3:2) and in dreams (Matthew 1:20-24)

One thing is certain, such miracles and apparitions as chronicled in the Bible would be perceived very differently today.

Miracles

Could modern technology explain the most famous of the Messiah's miracles?

1. The conception by Elizabeth (Luke 1:18, 24, 25)

2. The incarnation of Jesus (Mt 1:18-25; Lu 1:26-80)

3. The appearance of the star over Bethlehem (Mt 2:1-9)

4. The deliverance of Jesus into Egypt (Mt 2:13-23)

5. Water converted into wine (John 2:1-11)

6. Heals the nobleman's son (John 4:46-54)

7. The catch of fish (Lu 5:1-11)

8. Cleanses the leper (Mt 8:1-4; Mr 1:40-45; Lu 5:12-16 )

9. Heals the paralyzed man (Mt 9:1-8; Mr 2:1-12; Lu 5:17-26)

10. Raises the widow's son to life at the village of Nain (Lu 7:11-16) and Lazarus from the dead (John 11:1-46).

11. Stills the storm (Mt 8:23-27; 14:32; Mr 4:35-41; Lu 8:22-25)

12. Walks upon Lake Galilee (Mt 14:22-33; Mr 6:45-52; Joh 6:16-21)

13. Feeds more than four-thousand people (Mt 15:32-39; Mr 8:1-9)

14. Opens the eyes of a man born blind (John 9)

15. Condemns a fig tree (Mt 21:17-22; Mr 11:12-14, 20-24)

16. Heals the ear of Malchus (Lu 22:49-51)

Why don't such miracles happen today?

Hello roberrific, I wonder sometimes myself about that questions, angels, aliens, If you read the first chapters of Ezekeil , you could almost draw what is describes.

I dont believe in green men, but I think it would be possible to travel space if God allowed it. Or are angels spiritual, and can by pass gravity, time and space. This is the kind of angels I think most people think of. I myself have never seen an angel, but I have seen miricles they have performed. With a good imagination I guess we could come up with some type of space vehicle that travels from one world to another. In God all things are possible, His own words.

Very interesting topic, I love to hear about angels.

Praise Jesus , IJLbg

I too find it an interesting thought.
Have a look at some of the numerous books by Zecharia Sitchin.

Interesting thoughts. In Star Trek some unscrupulous captains who did not obey the prime directive (non intereference with primitive societies) set themselves up on the planets and pretended to be gods. It is easy to see how that could happen.

If we attribute everything 'miraculous' to the aliens, then we are off the hook. The presence of Aliens means theres nothing to religion. Why not just say you don't believe it, rather than invent all this hocus pocus.

There is no time travel, because it would have to be time-space travel. The earth tomorrow will not be in the same place in the universe it was yesterday. To go back in time is to go back in space as well, and the earth isn't there any more to go back to. It has moved forward in its orbit. The only time we have is now.

The greater challenge is to realize what message those miracles are communicating. It doesn't matter if you believe them literally or just mythically. What is the scripture writer trying to get you to understand about the meaning of life?
