Church Bus Could Be On Time

Did you ever ride a Church Bus? They were loads of fun, and handy and humanizing, and maybe we could work together to bring that back in urban environments where there are lots of professionals seeking spiritual guidance as they question 'the meaning of it all'.

a bus that is a church

Toronto needs a mobile church.

Imagine a bio fueled vehicle that patrols the streets and re-energizes the base. Young people need to re discover what it means to connect through songs in church choir and by listening to guest ministers sermon while sauntering through quiet city streets on Sunday morning; we'll ask young people in condo neighbourhoods to come celebrate the joy of life on Planet Earth and finally meet their neighbours. The blog How To Build A Church on Wheels is a motorcycle enthusiasts perspective on a religious movement but shares some valid insights into how exciting it can be to join a movement, and cross a budge. The landscape is changing, and there's a role our church can play - this vehicle must take our best songs and good vibrations out to the people; no longer can we afford to wait for these families to come to us.

And this mobile cathedral must be a purpose built vehicle and not made over Winnebago or a camper but a bonafide church on wheels. Cathedral on wheels could be an automotive masterpiece; there's nothing as eleaborate as what i eniovision out there yet, although plenty of religius art vehicles exist for one reason or another and of course most are religious art floats in holiday parades.

I call for a purpose built mobile church vehicle made of wood, aluminum framed stain glass with sculptures of rigid foam, and plenty of seating before the alter.

This is not an entirely new idea of course, and indeed there are many different types of interesting theologically themed vehicles driving about in Canada and the United states. We can look for inspiration at these vehicles. The best are the ones that let the people interact with the participants inside, or on top of the vehicle, like the parade float. Consider making a vehicle for songs and sermons first, and for driving second- a floating stain glass conservatory or sunroom with polurethane spray foam insulation shaped into breathtaking Baroque sculptures that Gian Lorenzo Bernini himself would have used were he commissioned to create the craft. We'd need to make something breathtaking; a city bus to take preople's breath away, and make folks stop, point to friends, and wonder.

There is already an enterprise called Church on Wheels or COW , and the website(s) shows they have a busy manufacturey of portable shelving and seating and accessories . I envision this being popular in extra remote areas of the world. What can we do for the city?

Years ago, all over Canada and esp in rural areas there was a door to door pick-up and delivery service in vehicles designated as Church Buses, and these craft were notorious for songs and stories and fun.
