Luke 4:18-19

18 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has appointed me to preach Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the downtrodden will be freed from their oppressors, 19 and that the time of the Lord's favour has come.

Last week I told you guys how you were the church.  When we look at each other we don’t see the strong in this world.  Donald Trump doesn’t come here.  Nor does Arnold Schwarzenegger.  We look at each other are we see those that are not considered very highly in this world.  Yet in this passage Jesus talks about peaching to the poor, releasing captives, the blind seeing, and the downtrodden (the slaves) being released from their oppressors.  And then he says the year of God’s favour has come.  So what does this mean?  It means that God choses to work with those that are weak.  God choses those that don’t have anything that society seems to say they need to contribute to society.  Because it is among us that God can do his greatest work.

If you were to look at me you would not think that I am a pastor.  I talk funny and walk funny.  I tend to wave my arms when I get excited.  But yet God uses me because He can show his strength through me.  The thing I have learned through having Cerebral Palsy is to rely on his strength to do what I need to.  That I need to trust him in the areas where I am weak.

So therefore, we can say that God loves us and that in our weakness we are made strong.  We also need to remember that Jesus includes all people in his community.  We are all God’s friends.  Did you ever think of that? You are God’s friends!!  See we know that we are friends of God because Jesus died on the cross for us so that we could be his friends.  That’s how much God loves you.  Therefore by coming together each week we are celebrating that God loves us and that we are now friends with God.
