Days of Rain - Art Installation by Paul Roorda

"Days of Rain" is an art installation by Paul Roorda at the abandoned Lamlash Church near Durham, Ontario.

Rev. Keith Hagerman of Parkminster United Church in Waterloo, Ont. shared the following reflection about the art installation with his congregation:

"It could be said that artists are the theologians in our time, forcing us to look at the world with different eyes, seeing moments of grace or of destruction, turning our preconceived notions on their head."

For more photos from "Days of Rain" and other art works, see Paul Roorda's website:

Seven stages of grief: Shock & Denial -- Songs, Poetry, Art

We have people visit the cafe, after receiving a sudden shock having lost someone or something.

Whether it be a life taken unexpectedly or someone facing a serious illness....a job lost or a relationship broken,....we often walk together in this stages.

Yet, we aren't always here, nor do people always wish to communicate.

An Ode to my Paganism

I made this slideshow the other day, of my pagan drawings from my pagan years: 1992-2001. The drawings are not highly skilled, they are personal momentos of my thoughts, like a diary,  and I have wanted to do something like this, share them with a wider audience, for a long time.

A World Without Shadows....

An NFB documentary on Maud Lewis

"Set against a background of her paintings and the Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, landscapes they depict, this short documentary is a portrait of the life and work of one of Canada's foremost primitive painters, Maud Lewis. Emerging from her youth crippled with arthritis, Lewis escaped into her painting at the age of 30. She had never seen a work of art and had never attended an art class but her paintings captured the simple strength, beauty and happiness of the world she saw - a world without shadows."

Spiritual Art

Just dropping quickly by, work is taking up all my spare time at the moment.  I came across this beautiful article about an accomplished artist who paints his spirituality, and wanted to share it here.

Aaron McCarroll Gallegos: Raising Art

When aerosol artist Chor Boogie, who was part of the original Paint Your Faith event in Toronto, showed up at the recent Vancouver PYF event, no one expected him to paint. He had come to Vancouver to share his art at the Paint Your Faith show at Ayden Gallery and connect with PYF Vancouver artists Indigo, Titi Freak, Faith 47, and Peeta along the way while they worked on the new PYF mural.

While at the mural site, Chor also connected with Sandra Severs of First United Church Mission, which was co-sponsoring PYF Vancouver along with WonderCafe.ca. Chor asked if he could paint a section of First United's roof and Sandra said "Go for it!" And soon Chor, along with the Paint Your Faith documentary team, were climbing several levels of ladders to reach the steeple of First United Church, high above the Downtown Eastside.

Images of Faith

I often find that images, artwork, photos etc will capture something that words cannot.  Are there images that speak to you of your faith - that speak without the aid of words?  I'm curious to see if we can maintain spirit filled thread without words or commentary...

In 2010, Somewhere, a People Cheered as One

Ok.  Some of you might have heard that Vancouver, BC, is hosting some event.

Where ordinary people come from all over the world in order to compete in various events.

So I'm here and have known aboot it for quite some time now.  The local media reports run the gamut from cost overruns and 'Free Speech Areas' to the Olympic Torch's travel and the new streetlamps that have been put up in some places.

What is Art?

Well they are really duking it out over on Pilgtims Progress's thread on Monkey Jesus so I got out before I got hit by flying pies.

. But it occured to me to know when is art not art. What is art to you? Is Art in the eye of the beholder? Should all art be considered art?

Any answers?
