I Believe--Of the Law of God

Hi All,

Man do I suck at keeping a blog or what?

I'm gearing up to start the NCD Cycle (more on that in future blogs) and thought that the best way to develop my blogging habit would be to finish my blogs on the individual Articles of Faith.

What to do with the Articles of Faith...

Maybe before we do anything to these historical articles we need to be very clear and decided on the following:  (1) what is doctrine? (2) what are its sources?  (3) how does it develop over time?

The Anglicans have done a lot of work in this area. The following quotes come from their draft document titled "The Principles of Canon Law Common to the Churches of the Anglican Communion."

Statements of Faith or Expressions of Faith

Maybe the problem with our Language regarding faith and God is that we are using words written by theologians and politicians to create our statements of faith.

Perhaps we should be using art created by musicians, writers and other artists in creating expressions of faith, or any statements.

Was not the New and Old Testament created by artists, even Paul could be consider an artist as much as a theologian.

What does this say to me? Article 2 - 'Of Revelation'

Ok. Continuing on to the next in the 20 Articles of Faith in the Basis of Union... how do you do on essential agreement with this one? What does it say to you?

(Note: If you're just coming into this thread, you may want to take a look at the previous connected thread titled, "What does this say to me? Article 1". Then again, you may not! *grin*)

What the United Church of Canada actually believes

Hi all,

In the spirit of open minded discussion I have decided to present to you a link

Here it is:

http://www.united-church.ca/ucc/basisofunion/

When you cut and paste this link into your browser (because our ultra modern forum service doesn't allow for hyperlinks) and hit enter you will be taken to the United Church of Canada's Basis of Union.

This document is the United Church of Canada's doctrine section and it explains what we believe.

Almost.
