wrap-up

If you had one verse from the bible that you would consider the wrap up of the whole book, what would it be?

If you can't do this, what would you change to make the book more palatable for you?

Bible Passages about Access, Disability, Inclusion, and Diversity

I am asking for people who know the Old and New Testaments to help me.

I have a web site www.accessiblechurch.ca that is about helping your Church become accessible, by bringing down barriers to church and inside churches.

The number one key words that  bring people to my site from search engines are bible verses, diversity, disability and inclusion.

Can Atheists accept God?

Can an Atheist accept the value of God?

I am an atheist, however, I believe in the value for those who believe in God existing.  I am wondering if that value, through poetic understanding of this religious icon, can be learned in a way Atheists would accept it.  This is a new thought I had which I am only recently undertaking, but I thought it might be nice to get other atheist's perspectives on it.

Go You Know of any Inclusive Bible Translations Online

Something more inclusive then TNIV? At least something that does not always use masculine pronouns to describe God? Something online?

A very difficult decision.

I have come to a very difficult point in my burgeoning political career.  The Swearing in Ceremony is on monday at 7:00PM.  I asked if I could be sworn in on a Qur'an instead of a Bible for obvious reasons.  The SAO said that she would look into it, and that it probably wouldn't be a problem, but if it was you can just accept the station (for atheists et cetera...).  I would prefer to be sworn in on the Qur'an, but I wouldn't have any qualms about just accepting it if I couldn't.

Clarity

I don't have as much time as I once did to hang out at the cafe. I confess I miss it.

Skimming through a number of threads, a sort of theme emerged and I wonder if it might be worth pulling into its own thread.

Most mainline clergy and lay preachers I know understand the Bible as "true but not historical". I think it was Gord who mentioned, in the context of midrasch, that we have to study Scripture in a way that allows us to find the context for our time, where the ancient story intersects with our lives.

Today I went a popular Christian/Bible store in my city

I was looking for a modern translation of a bible that was more suited to where I am in my life right now (19).

I saw 2 really cool New Living Translation bibles, 1 for teenage girls and 1 for (university) students. They were both awesome bibles and I really liked them.

What I especially liked was that there was a large section of questionable topics in the back (called "Is it okay?" in the teenager bible), and then references to where "answers" to these issues could be found in the bible.

What is the point of Genesis 22:1-18

As I stand at the Crossroad in my life with the choice to go the Christian path or to continue on my path to Enlightenment, I stand confused, pondering, because I want, with all my heart, to bring Jesus back into my life. But I have questions, one in which is, what is the point of Genesis 22:1-18? Being a father myself to one child not unlike Abraham, I have to state that if God advised me of the same as he did with Abraham I would blatantly say NO!!! Then I guess after taking cover I would try and have a conversation with God asking him why? Do you not see my loyalty to you?

Redact, Ignore, or Other?

What should we do as the global Body of Christ when Scripture obstructs social justice? Equal rights for LGBT individuals and their heterosexual counterparts is socially just, so why is it not biblical?

How does the UCC reconcile its acceptance of gays & lesbians with the Bible's condemnation of homosexuality and the homosexual lifestyle?

Is the bible the sword of truth, or the shield of disopinion?

I find that too often people use the bible to contradict a person's belief and then be used as a shield to hide behind.

for example, I was at school, talking with some friends when my one friend, Sylvia, asked "Justin, I've always wondered whether you'd be the guy or the girl in a relationship."

I said "It's not about who's the guy or the girl, it's just about two guys who love each other and want to make a relationship work."
