When I was fourteen, I adored travel books by a Brit named HVMorton. He was a very popular travel writer of the 20s and 30s who had a knack of seeing a living past around him everywhere he went - and he could bring that life to the reader. I read his In Search of England, In search of Scotland, etc. I suspect it was the first step in me deciding to become an historian.
This is really an ad for a book by an old friend and colleague at Concordia university. He's a mathematician - which I had always thought of as the most authoritative and certain field of study there was. Not so, he says in his new book. All science, including mathematics, is full of uncertainty and constant change which still leaves us in uncertainty. You can imagine how much worse it must be in fields like history, politics and theollogy.
Hi folks
Are you participating in a book study for Lent? Are you doing journalling?
What are you doing this year for Lent?
Have you read the book or seen the movie 'The Secret'?
What did you think about the movie? Did you like the message? Since seeing it have you changed anything in your life?
I did a search looking for anyone posting about it, but either the search failed me or it has not been discussed.
Thoughts?
i'm wondering what peoples all time favourite book/comic book is. i'm reading a re-write of Pride and Prejuduce at the moment called Pride and Prejiduce and Zombies, it's a really good book ^_^ but my all time favourite would have to be ...1984, the Catcher in the Rye, One flew over the cuckoo's nest or the Green Mile.
what about you guys?
has anyone read this book??
what did you think of it??
i just finished it 15 minutes ago, and i'm overwhelmed at the moment... sad, but almost a sense of understanding and respect...
any thoughts would be appreciated!!
I came home from church yesterday to find a package from amazon.ca with my copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard in it. All bets were of course off while I read. Its quite a slim volume and my sister says it sorta reminds her of a Beatrix Potter book which I think probably did influance the design.
