There are 2 Kinds of People in the World

October 4, 2009; St. Francis of Assisi; Matthew 11:25-30

"There are two kinds of people in the world..." Have you ever heard someone make a claim that started with a statement like that?

The Dark Side of International Adoption

There is a lot of discussion on this board about adoption as a solution to helping children, both at home and abroad. While I believe that this is offered by most as a genuine attempt to help children, I know that recent events in Haiti have begun to reveal the darker side to international adoption.

Through the eyes of a child:

On Fear

There is a thread in R&F about fear being the basis of religion.  Graeme alluded to keeping children safe without intstilling unreasonable fear or prejudice in them.  I didn't want to hijack that thread so I'm posting some concerns and questions relating to fear and children here.

pregnancy and parenting tips

We seem to have a large number of pregnant members and new moms.  Perhaps we can share some tips and ideas to help each other.

My main tip for being pregnant is never over due it.  Remember to rest whenever you are tired.  Tricky when you are working or have a toddler but vital to your well being.

For new parents my biggest tip would be to enjoy the experience and dont' get caught up in the irritating details but alwasy look beyound to the beautiful child in front of you.

When they grow up ...

In the music thread, I talked about rediscovering Chris de Burgh recently. On his 1986 album Into the Light, he recorded a beautiful little ballad for his daughter (2 at the time) called "For Rosanna".

In reading up on what's been happening with de Burgh in recent years, I discovered that the little girl to whom that song was dedicated is now a gorgeous 25 year-old model (Rosanna Davison) and was the first woman from Ireland to win Miss World.

I have two reactions to this:

"More parents share the workload when mom learns to let go"

Hey there Wondercafe crowd,

I noticed this article recently and I would like to get your thoughts on it. The basic gist is that men don't share as much in household stuff because women sometimes discourage them with a sort of 'gatekeeper' mentality?

What do you think? Does this really happen? If so, how would you deal with it if you were in this situation?

The article is here: http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2009-05-04-equal-parenting_N.htm
