Rolling back the stone

It's Easter Sunday.

A time when we will be filled with the story of the resurrection, the surprises, the joy of Easter morning service...the hope that there is something better after the times of darkness.

This morning, another shared their coming out story, a story of rolling back a different stone.

Resurrection Today

In my last blog I mentioned a friend whose husband had died. I did indeed travel to Winnipeg for the celebration of his life. Yesterday, my friend and I spoke on the phone for a long time. Something she said stuck with me, and it's been going around and around since we spoke. She said she has never felt any pain like this before, and doesn't know where to go with it. Everything seems empty, flat and gray. She can't process (her word) unexpected things, or make decisions without stress.

An Inexpensive Last Minute Easter Gift Idea

i'm not sure where to put this, so here it is in social.  as some of you may know, every year i try and make my gift giving more and more organic and fair trade.  this year i donated rabbits to families in need, through canadian food for the hungry international.  i looked around at quite a few different sites and this was by far the best bang for my buck.  for $20.00 you can give a needy family 4 rabbits, which in turn offer:

Got a Match? or, An Easter Manifesto

"We were just wilting, sagging, demographics got us, wearing down, mainline sliding toward the sideline, burdened by buildings, going limp, troubled by the numbers, cutting back, ready to throw in the towel.

Christ got up and said with a smirk, “To heck with the institution! Let’s make a revolution! Anybody got a match?”"

As a man thinks....

As a man thinks so shall he be.  If we truly come from God and the creative universe then we too are creators like God.  However, if what we envision can be manifested simply through intention and will, then why can we not create peace? Personally, I think that desire and will alone are not adequate to create a thing in our lives.  A state of readiness must also accompany it.  The lightbulb could not have been invented in the 12th century because the ability to harness electricity, blow glass into a bulb shape, understand the excitability of electrons in their valen

Jesus of Cinema – Part 2: Flirting with Heresy

Yesterday (see Part 1 here), I talked a little bit about the tradition in adaptations of the Jesus story toward literal, illustrative versions that often have either dull or ethereal portrayals of Jesus.

But there’s another, equally important, movement in Jesus films. I call it, even though I don’t believe this to be true, the Flirting With Heresy school of thought.

In Cancer, a Deeper Faith

I am setting up a section of my web site (accessiblechurch.ca )that will have links to current news articles and Blog postings that deal with issues of concerns of disability, illness, and Faith. Today in the New York Times there was this article which I though was so well written that I should post the link here.
