Tutors

Have you used a tutor personally, or for your child?  What did you look for when hiring them?  Did you pick an individual or a company?  How much were you willing to pay?

Have you tutored before?  What did you charge?  How did you advertise?

I'm thinking about maybe getting back into it.  Haven't decided for sure.  Depending on the grade and subject I might need to brush up a bit first myself!  I already have one parent I know that would pay me.

Fighting Homophobia and Transphobia Media Campaign

The Quebec government Justice department has created a multimillion dollar media campaign to fight homophobia, and transphobia raise awareness.

Quebec is seen as one of the least homophobic  areas in the world, with upto 90% of the population saying they reject homophobia, or have no problems with LGBT people  .

coming your way

The greatest factor in the creation of the modern world was not capitalism or business of any sort. It was public education introduced in the middle of the the nineteenth century, that make possible business as we know it, health care, and all the prosperity we enjoyed until recently. But there's a big change coming.

What Would Such a Thing Be Like?

Must be a slow day today.

I just read an article about the Republican Party of Texas setting their platform for the 2012 campaign.  One of the planks was about opposing the teaching of 'higher thinking' skills in high school, lest it interfere with what the article called 'fixed beliefs' of students.

Onwards and Upwards!

Well, your Omni is finally leaving the nest (sort of).

I'm off to Grant MacEwan to join the illustrious ranks of those who don't know what they want to do!  General Studies ho!

So if any wondergatherings happen in Edmonton - or by extension Alberta - during the year, I'm IN!

Onward, the revolution (that is life)!!

Protestant Seminary Joins Hands with Jewish, Muslim Schools

Recently a Methodist seminary has opened its doors to muslims and jews where they can study their own faith traditions.  Is this the future for UCC theological schools or would it be better to stop supporting or even close ultra-liberal seminaries before they completely corrupt the denomination.

Learning something new

I've been taking a drawing class for about 5 weeks now.  Although I do find it hard to make time to actually practice, I'm really, really enjoying it.  This is something that I've wanted to do since I was very yount.  There were no art classes at all through my schooling.  We learned a bit about drawing faces last week and I find I look at people differently now.  Today I spent some of the time waiting for my computer to finish thinking at work sketching my son's eyes from the photos I have on my desk and I found it very calming and relaxing.
