I just posted a blog in WC that I posted on our church website yesterday in response to the CBC commentary on advertising by churches. I believe this may be the same commentary that sparked another thread. Our webmaster offered his appreciation for my posting of the blog -- found it very helpful for him.
CBC Radio included a commentary on advertising campaigns and approaches used by different churches, and included a comment that, as much as most young people support the positions of the United Church of Canada on issues such as homosexuality and the environment, most also perceived the United Church as having no clear beliefs. This provoked me to reflecting on what I thought could go in a belief statement by the United Church.
I just wrote a blog today, most of it of no interest to you because it is about our local news media. However, the last part of it is a summary of a fascinating article by a retired and very distinguished Harvard professor of Business Administration. It appeared Nov. 20, 2009, in Business Week.
In brief, it is an examination of the collapse of morality and ethics in our corporation leadership. Our big business leaders are compared, not unreasonably, to Adolf Eichmann.
I tried to isolate it, and send it to wondercafe, but couldn't.
Story out of Toronto today where a woman lied about being raped, convinced two others that her story was legit and won $10,000 in a radio contest. Radio station sees no problem and justifies it as "entertainment". Do you?

The game, called Decision Impossible, involves taking three people, asking them why they deserve the money, then forcing them to decide amongst themselves who should win.
......that cuts in front of me in traffic.

Do you agree that very wealthy people are less ethical than those who aren't? From my experience, it would seem so overall. Of course, there are notable exceptions (help me out here!).
Hello everyone and thank you for stopping by and reading this post.
If I may ask something please..... Could we please have just your personal definitions and or understanding of the morality and ethics and the differences between these two concepts.
For those that are of the "christian" persuasion would you please also contribute a comment or two on what you feel the term "christian morality" and "christian ethics" would mean.
My friend just found out that her ex has been withholding information about his annual income, despite a court order requiring his full disclosure. Based on the difference between what he was telling her his income was and what it actually is since she forced disclosure through the court, she figures he owes her (their child, really) approximately $15,000 from the past 3 years.
What follows is an interesting quote from a book by Donald Capps called "Deadly Sins & Saving Virtues." In this quote, he is talking about the work of two moral philosophers, Judith Shklar and Mary Daily.

Heh folks
I am curious if anyone knows the rules re Canada Day.
I discovered earlier this week that our plant is closed down on Friday, July 3rd, not Wed, July 1st. Surprised me, but, then I figured, ok, maybe the rules changed.
Are ethics absolute? Is there definite black and white?
I suspect it's a sliding scale. For example, take two men. One gets in a fight, and stabs a man. The other, in a war, stabs a man, in hand to hand combat. Both are killings. But, one man goes to jail, and the other may get a medal.
Does circumstance play a role?
