Leaving Evangelical Fundamentalist Christianity

I'm a 33-year-old guy from Kitchener who grew up in the world of evangelical fundamentalist Christianity. I listened to only Christian music, wore Christian t-shirts, and thought one day I may be a pastor. I went through 3 years of Bible college when serious questions arose, leading to me leaving Christianity altogether.

If you'd like to view a sermon I gave at my Unitarian congregation last month, you are welcome to do so here.

Evangelicals?

Hi, I'm new here and I realize that this not the kind of Christian forum that I have expected (pretty critical towards the Bible and basic principles of Christianity).

So I was curious whether there are some here that tend to be more conservative leaning (evangelical or charismatic) in the United Church. as you know, they are the ones that are growing pretty fast.

I also want to know what you think about evangelicals and if you think that they fulfill their stereotypes.

How I became evangelical christian

I became to follow Christ when I go to Cegep. I meet Jesus in a catholic charismatic meeting. This was before my coming out. After my conversion, I decide to improve my knowledge of my faith. I follow course on catholicism with Opus Dei. After two years, I have finish my Cegep and I decide to work for Christ. I go to Montreal University in theology studies. At the same time, I decide to become a priest in a religious community.

Open-minded evangelicals in the UCC?

Hi Everyone,

I came across the following piece at: http://www.aqurette.com/journal/2008/08/ openminded-evangelic.html about an emerging breed of evangelicals.  Is this happening among evangelicals in the UCC as well?

Open-Minded Evangelicals

By Christopher Aqurette

Just when I was about to give up on the evangelicals, I learn of a new study showing progress among young Christians:

Sharing Faith with Friends

As part of another thread, questions were posed, and presumptions were shared, that got me thinking to evangelicsm.

I am not someone who preaches about my faith, or invites people to church.  If I meet someone who is a Hindu, Moslem, then I am interested in understanding about their faith.  I ask questions to learn.

How come your Bible is the Word of God?

One of the most common and significant divisions within Christianity I encounter is between those who regard the Bible as literal and those who regard it as a Guided guide that is usually metaphoric.

It seems to me that those who regard it as literal must have either made a decision that it is so, or must have been brought up to believe that.  This to me seems as though people are relating to and putting their Faith in a book rather than in God and Christ.
