A sermon on religion and politics

Some time ago, I submitted a post in which I said the clergy should use some of their sermons tp relate our faith to situations here -     to. for example,  politics. I noticed that the response of clerics ranged from tepid to high Arctic. So let me try an example - using the very touchy issue of Islam, Judaism and Christianity. The core of the sermon would be the meaning and importance of forgiving.

Seven stages of grief: Shock & Denial -- Songs, Poetry, Art

We have people visit the cafe, after receiving a sudden shock having lost someone or something.

Whether it be a life taken unexpectedly or someone facing a serious illness....a job lost or a relationship broken,....we often walk together in this stages.

Yet, we aren't always here, nor do people always wish to communicate.

Songs of Lament

I'm not sure you can have a favourite song of lament...but, can't think of the right word.

So, what are the songs that you sing to or listen to during times of lament?

What allows you to sit when you need to and accept your sadness?

What moves you through to the next stage of grief

Here is the wiki article on Lament : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lament

Scholarship and Faith

This quote from Berserk in another thread caught my eye and thought we could spin a discussion from it. No criticism of Berserk intended. In fact, I quite like the quote and attitude presented.

The Death of the Christian Faith Is Overstated in Canada

Guess what/

Christianity in Canada isn't dying. Especially the Roman Catholic Church. Reg Bibby sugests that the Roman Catholic Church will grow and change.

So will all other denominations.

Canda is still a dominantly Chriustian country.

Immigration will positively affect the Roman Catholic Church and to a lesser extent, other churches.

We need not fear other faiths. They will increase, but not as anyone has been predicting.

killer generations

My sons (14 years old) are big on computer games. There are so many of theose games out there. And you know what? Almost all of them are about war and killing.

Then I check out the surviving comic books, often now coming out in book format. Just finished one called Commandos. It's second world war. the Japanese are yellow-bellies, little brown men, cowards, racially inferior.

Is christian fundamentalism (american style) really a heresy?

Is right-wing, American christian fundamentalism a Christian Heresy? It invokes the name of the Xtian God while waging war, enriching the rich, oppressing the poor, polluting the planet and promoting american consumerist society?? George W. Bush espoused being "born again" while lying to the world about WMD and sending troops into Iraq. Apparently there was a weekly Bible study in the WhiteHouse during his tenure. He even used biblical language calling the muslim fanatics who oppose the West "evildoers." All this religious-political hype.
