Do you believe in Satan?

What's the purpose of this guy? More than 5 years ago, I have begun to reject the concepts behind hell, Satan, demons, fallen angels and whatnot. While I'm Christian, I just don't see why he has to exist.

In fact, I think it's scape-goating that brought him into Christianity. People didn't understand concepts like the unconscious, dreaming, psychology in general and blamed the devil and demons for their thoughts and the "voices" they heard.

Well, that's my opinion. Do you believe in Satan?

Toast At Communion

The Sacrament of Holy Communion  is a meal with the community and God.

If you were making a toast at this meal, what would you say?

The Spirit/Jesus in your life

I was wondering are  God, Jesus, and The Spirit always combined.

If not which entity do you relate most to in your life -God....Jesus.....Spirit?

Can you have one without the other?

Is one more important to you than another?

Possessive

Reading threads this morning and looking at scriptures for Sunday, it has come to mind that we are "possessive" people. Why do we think that God is ours? That we own God. That no one else has the right to  know God. It is not a pleasant trait, imo.

What do you think?

Are Christianity and Anarchism Compatible?

This was a response to a [fairly militant and one-sided] argument over here about why the author rejects "Christian Anarchy".

Literally this was just a fast response I typed out, so I would love feedback, suggestions, more discussion, and respectful argument.

What size God do you want?

Yesterday at Wellington Square United Church, Guy Chevreau of Catch the Fire fame came and spoke to our congregation about the book of Revelation and how God fills our lives. He talked about how God is all around us, and that "God is closer to everything than it is to itself". But the thing that really stood out for me was his question to the congregation: "Do you want a God who fits nealty into your lives? I don't.

Worship without God? Unio Mystica or Unio Homo?

In the most recent issue of the United Church Observer (February 2011) we have a feature article about the so-called “Post-Theistic” churches that have begun to spring up from within the greater United Church polity. These congregations are taking down their crosses, closing their Bibles, and trying to re-imagine themselves as spiritual beings in their own right.

To re-quote the Rev.

In a recently shut down thread, there was an exchange like the following...

Do you similarly believe that Jae can stop himself from being a theist anytime he wants to?  Or that you could stop believing in whatever God you believe in now and start believing only in Odin?  Or Ra?  Or The Flying Spaghetti Monster?
Yes, I believe that I can stop myself from being a theist anytime I want to.

God and Jesus - musings

This stems from Richard Bott's thread on Creedo amd Gord's post in Should we pray to Jesus or God. I have spent over night thinking about this.

These are personal musings and I speak for only myself.

There is the story told of the lapsed Catholic who hadn't been active in the faith for many years calling for a priest and last Rites when he was dying.
