Is God In the Computor?

5 or 6 years ago when I did not even know how to turn the computor on, people in church circles would say "Oh , you must learn if you are going to move foreward in your faith and in the church " or some such sentiments

So I learned. But have I found God in the computor?

I have found a circle of friends here at WonderCafe. It is the closest that I have come to God.

What about you? Is God in your computor?

what would you ask if you had just one question?

so, joan osborne's song "one of us" has been thrown around the cafe over the last few months.  i had started a thread some time back and i think pinga had at one time as well.  recently the song came up in the glee thread.  the one line of the song that always makes me think is "what would you ask if you had just ONE question?" ...  well, what would you ask god?  only one question, wow that's tough.  please keep it to just one question and feel free to add why that would be the biggie, or even what you think god's answer would be.

Bye, for now, to "God"

I'm currently drafting my creed as a personal exercise in response to some reading and contemplation that I've done over the summer (and am itching to take the more formal route of completing the UU Building Your Own Theology course). And I'm finding that the word "God" isn't appearing in it. Nor is it likely to. And that doesn't bother me in the least. It's not that I'm becoming an atheist. As I read through the statements I'm making in it (I'll post it in a blog someday), there's more than a few that suggest a kind of pantheism or even panentheism.

Calling All Atheists

I thought I'd test the waters of this site and see how many atheists actually frequant these hallowed halls. If you are an atheist, please post. Explain why you are a non-believer, explain how, explain when, do anything you want. The point is to show all these unbearably superstitious people that we do indeed have a presence on this site.

The Immorality of Vicarious Redemption

Am I the only person who finds the entire concept of vicarious redemption to be utterly immoral (not to mention harmful)?

Have you met the actual 'spirit' of Jesus?

Marcus Borg estimates that 10-20% of Christians have met the actual 'spirit,' ghost if you will, of Jesus of Nazareth.

How do you react to something like that?

How does it affect you?

Have you met Him?

Are you afraid to talk about it in the Church?

What was God's Plan?

Okay, we play a game like Farm Town or Farm Ville. we start out small and plant crops. This leads to harvesting and making money. This leads to buying facilities and producing cakes, pies, pizza etc. Then we sell and buy more land.

Was God's plan like this? Do you think God had an idea that evolved into where we are today or did God see the big picture until  and through eternity?

Is God still adding to God's original plan? What do you think?

For those who think there is no God, who are the CEO's who are orchestrating this whole thing?

Why do you believe in God?

I have a question for you, and it is quite simple in nature. I assume a large portion of those who visit this site (that's you!) are members of either Christianity or some other monotheisitc Abrahamic religion. If you are, I address this question to you. Why do you believe in the monotheistic Abrahamic god (Yahweh) and not the Greek pantheon of gods(Zeus, Apollo, Aphrodite, Hades, etc...)? I am not trying to offend in any way, shape or form. I am simply curious as to what reasoning the majority of you have.

Sincerely,

A Curious Skeptic
