I love it when kids ask questions which confound adults. Our Sunday School leader approached me after Christmas with a good question one of our young people asked in Sunday School. “If Jesus were alive today, how old would he be?” There was some argument in the group over whether Jesus would be 2013 years of age or not. Fortunately, the Sunday School leader said she would check it out and come back with an answer. And the answer is, “It depends.” No one, with any certainly, can give a definitive date for the birth of Jesus, no matter if we celebrate it on December 25 every year.

On Sunday, I am service leader at my UU fellowship, working with the minister on a service about Solstice and Christmas. I have long wanted to talk about Christmas and the traditional Nativity story in the context of my UU'ism so for my part of the service, I am offering the following reflection. The reflection in our service is an opportunity for the service leader to offer their own thoughts on the theme of the service.

Hello all. I've just joined this forum and am glad to have access to a forum that welcomes open discussion about spiritual matters.

I've been reading the John 14:6 thread today and have this question, particularly for those of you who do not see Jesus or Christianity as the exclusive path to the Father. Why do you choose to be a follower of Jesus (if you indeed identify as a Christian)? Why this path and not another spiritual path or religion? Is it a matter of fit with your personality/history/culture? A personal experience of Jesus?

Just saw Life of Pi last night. A freind wouldn't come b/c I guess it was not her cup of tea ... maybe (I suspect) being evangelical. I had no problem with the story... very beautiful, funny and inspirational. Just wondering what others thought of it???

I've been re-reading For Christ's Sake by Tom Harpur for the first time in many years (it's a well-worn copy bought back in the days when I read him regularly in the Star). I'm rather surprised by how much some of what he discusses still resonates with me and it's got me giving the Gospels a fresh read through as well.

What's everyone's thoughts on the new book by Pope Benedict XVI? Is he biblically right about the accounts of the birth of Christ or is it an attack by satan?

I heard this song on the radio today and thought it would be interesting to share here. What would you ask Jesus if you got the chance?
