Pondering my youthful past as I sip on my morning coffee: I remember as a young teen slowly waking up to the idea that the adult world was random & not "fair" or "rational." Most adults were motivated by fear, insecurity or just plain ignorance. Reading Orwell's 1984 and Huxely's Brave New World shook me to my existential roots. My suspicions were confirmed. Yikes! This was the world I was entering. I had a feeling of being lied to. Science addressed the "how" but left out the "why!" School was boring! Churches were out of touch!
RE Christianity really should be called Paulinity! Did Jesus of Nazareth really want to start a new religion? Not sure. Or, as one little old Irish lady used to say in our Bible study group, ... "Jesus was a good Jewish boy gone bad!" Was Jesus even a Christian???? This the way I see it, so far! All religions are a construct by some one. There seemed to have been many "Christianities" after the Teacher/Preacher/Prophet (Son of God? God? Logos?) Jesus of Nazareth lived on earth.
Hello everyone.....
I was wondering why Jesus never wrote anything down (in the way of scripture)
It is reasonable to assume that he was capable as he did read from the scroll of Isaiah and he also wrote things in the sand when dealing with the woman caught in adultery situation.
As a teacher, why didn't he write anything down or at least have his disciples write important things down? There was certainly Luke (the physician) and Matthew (the tax collector) who would have been capable.
Wesoly created a very thoughtful thread when she asked us what pushed us away from, and toward, faith and religion.
I would like to narrow the focus to the Christian faith and following or rejecting Jesus. What is it that attracts you to Christ? What pushes you away?
I was wondering are God, Jesus, and The Spirit always combined.
If not which entity do you relate most to in your life -God....Jesus.....Spirit?
Can you have one without the other?
Is one more important to you than another?
I just came across a post that the poster writes that her belief is that Jesus is sinless.
What does this mean to you? Do you think Jesus is or was sinless?
Why do you suppose that Jesus picked these particular people to be disciples? Fishers, lawyer, doctor, (correct me if I have misspoke)
Were these men looking for something new and different? Were they swayed? Were they convinced?
Why didn't he NAME women?
What are your thoughts?
Jesuology, Jesuolatry, Christology, Christianity and Christianisms. It's odd that I find kinship with a such a conservative theologian as Hodge when he warns against "bibliolatry" while at the same time having sympathies for the most liberal of Christians: Shleiermacher and Spong.
Two points have driven my recent thinking (which is, in fact, quite recent as I've avoided theologising for about a year):
1) We cannot continue to confuse our descriptions of divine work with the divine itself (that would be idolatry) and
On the 2010 Top ten list, somone posted that they didn't agree with the religious leaders list because Jesus wasn't on it.
Now, I have thought about this for the last couple of days and have wondered if posters think that Jesus is a religious leader today?
Are more people interested in God as a Religious leader or Jesus?
Or are they both irrelevent as leaders?
Any thoughts?
I wonder if there is another man like Jesus who has come or will come to show us the way of the Kingdom? Or is there only one. On another night will we be waiting for the birth of a baby with all the folklore, myth and metaphor that goes with it?
Just wondering what folk think?
