Here is my draft of my message for November 25. I will try to add my story when it is done.
Empire of God: John 18:33-37
I have posted my message for next Sunday in a blog. I have several starting points including the Book of Ruth for a message on the eventual failure of the use of violence and love as leading the way to what persists.
Here is my message for November 11, 2012.
Love Leads the Way (Book of Ruth)
Hey everyone, greetings from Thailand ... Have a question for you all!
Just got out of a 3 year relationship 3 months ago and we both like each other a lot but there was some issues in our past relationship that made us break up. Now since we have graduated and travelled we both have matured and figured out what we did wrong.
Knowing that i figured out what happened and still love him deeply should i go back to him and pursue our life? Or just let him go?
Cheers
:)
I also explained that it can be interpreted as "an allegory of Christ's love for the church".
More raised eyebrows......
The whole "The Song of Solomon is an allegory for Christ/God's Love" interpretation just doesn't fly with me. It smacks of a an effort to justify the book's presence by underplaying the book's real subject. While it may make the book more palatable as a part of the canon, it also neuters the real power of the text.
A thought, and I hope enough play along to make it worthwhile. Valentine's Day is coming up in 3 weeks. How about we play, "choose the Official Wondercafe Valentine's Day Song"? Pick your 3 favorite love songs (irrespective of genre, if someone wants to list opera arias or cynical songs about broken hearts, go for it) and list them in rank order (ie. first, second, third). I'll keep track and the top-rated song will be named the WC Valentine Song. Advocating for your own songs is allowed, but, please, no dissing others' choices (or at least keep it to witty, light-hearted dissing).
Tragedy and trouble struck one day,
The earthquake wiped my whole village away.
As I stand amidst the dust and rubble
deeper than lust ?
connection?
patiece and kindness ?
deeper than friendship?
warm fuzzy feeling?
risking?
What is love to you?
