Interesting if trivial pop culture news

This has been going around various news sources that I follow. It's a cute news story moreso than an important one. A biopic about Edward Snowden, who exposed the Internet secrets of the spies, is being produced by Eon Productions, that company that has produced most of the James Bond films. The juxtaposition of spies as geeks hunched over their screen with spies as slick, womanizing heroes in fast cars is interesting.

Netflick Recommendations

I might get some broader ideas from you guys than my friends.

Here are mine:

Orange is the New Black - if you're on Netflix you've probably at least heard of it.  I really enjoyed it!

American Horror Story - every season is basically a separate show.

The first season was a haunted house.

The 2nd was a mental institution, with some 'monsters' and someone gets locked in who shouldn't be there.  I found the 2nd season much more interesting.

Life of Pi

Just saw Life of Pi last night. A freind wouldn't come b/c I guess it was not her cup of tea ... maybe (I suspect) being evangelical. I had no problem with the story... very beautiful, funny and inspirational. Just wondering what others thought of it???

A marriage made in nerd heaven

It's been known for a while now that George Lucas, the brains behind Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Willow and, whether we like it or not, the movie version of Howard the Duck, wanted to retire or at least get away from his massive legacy to focus on smaller projects. Now he's taken probably the biggest step in doing so - selling Lucasfilm, his production company and the heart of his film empire.

The Titanic?

The one hundredth anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic is looming later this week and the epic romance Titanic by James Cameron is back in theatres in a 3-D remaster along with scores of other efforts to commemorate or cash in on the anniversary.

New Avatar Time

After seeing the latest trailers for Disney's upcoming movie John Carter, I felt compelled to update my avatar. Keeping with my ape theme, I'm using one of the Martian white apes. These are aggressive four-armed beasts that vaguely resemble terrestrial apes, hence the name "white apes".

Favourite Christmas Movie

What's your favourite Christmas movie?

I caught mine on tv today, Santa Claus is Coming to Town.  I think it's my favourite because it wasn't on frequently for years, so when I caught it in my teens it brought back a flood of memories from when I was a little kid that I don't really get when it's a movie I see every year.

I don't know what it was, but I was actually getting teary eyed watching it!

Are science fiction going to poo because moviemakers are trying to appeal to females?

I just saw the Green Hornet. Not a very good movie. It had its moment and then would fall flat. I've seen this before. I don't mean to be offensive but science fiction should not be trying to appeal to schmaltzy Hollywood romantic scenes just to draw more chicks to their flicks. It seems this ruins many sci fi movies and comic book here movies too. There's a fine line!
