My message for Sunday, August 18 is posted as a blog. While it is one of my longest sermons, due to covering a lot of ground, I hope it is readable. I may be able to trim it a bit more before Sunday morning. The scrpture passage is Jeremiah 23:15-32.
Truth or Fantasy? 2013 08 18 Jer 23:15-32
A mother asked her son what he learned in Sunday School. He said that Moses led the Israelites on a pontoon bridge across the Red Sea while God sent fighter aircraft to stop the Egyptian soldiers from attacking them. She was surprised and asked if that was really what he was taught. He said, "No, but if I told you what she said, you wouldn't believe me."
Hi All,
In the epistle of James we find this bit of instruction:
Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers and sisters can a fig tree bear olives and a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
Recently there have been several discussions where members of WonderCafe.ca are invited to consider an idea or two and those invited have raised misgivngs about the source responsible for the ideas.
This may be abject ignorence --- or profound truth...your call.....
When I examined the lectionary readings for Epiphany, the theme that popped into my head for this coming Sunday is Truth's Children. I have posted my preliminary draft of my message for Sunday in the blogs, and would appreciate any feedback anyone wishes to offer.

I have posted a draft of my story and message for October 28. We are using Ralph Milton's version of the story of Job for the scripture reading. The story has a long preamble. The message is one of my longest, but it touches on Job's story exposing the lie about a commercial God, moves on to global and personal issues, and finishes with our challenges in discerning a variety of truths related to the transition in which we are living as a congregation.
Here is my preliminary draft of my story and sermon for Sunday, Oct 28. It is one of my longest.

Story: John Newton
There is a man who was asst. scty. of the US Treasury, Associate Editor of Wall Street Journal, and economic columnist for Business Week, and Scripps-Howard News Agency.
I know you are concerned with economic matters. And I know your respect for sources. Would this man meet your standards?
His thinks the whole US economic and political system is rotten to the core, and manned by scoundrels, thieves, liars and murderers. (Oh, my goodness. He must be anti-American)
