The Paschal Sermon of St. John Chrysostom

Hi All,

Rumour has it that I am no slouch in the preaching department.

All the same. I recognize a great sermon when I see one.

Below, I have copied a sermon written by John Chrysostom for Easter Sunday. Since I uncovered this nugget several years ago I have quit writing Easter Sunday Sermons. This is, in my opinion, the finest sermon this season will hear read, preached or even thought.

I do edit it so that it has two responsive sections, other than that it is read intact.

Here it is:

Southern Ontario Youth Services for Good Friday

Hi All,

Want to see what youth can do for worship with some youth has-beens adding a little guidance?

If you are in London Conference you can check out The Swell:

Friday, April 14, 2006, 7:00 p.m. at Wesley-Knox United Church London, Ontario

They have a semi-functioning web-page at:

http://www.xcelco.on.ca/~theswell/

Their theme for the service is Rubric's Cube. Perhaps GUC will stuff his head into this thread and give us the skinny.

Children's time

Hi all,

This morning, surrounding the 1 Corinthians 15 passage I introduced the topic of resurrection during the children's time.

What is it I asked?

We started the back and forth.

One kid thought it sounded like being a zombie. I suggested that was reanimation rather than resurrection and we went off on a tangent about why zombies are different.

"They have no brains!" suggested one youngster. I countered with "If they have no brains how do you stop a zombie?"

Worship for MadMonk

Hi All,

MadMonk said he would be interested in hearing my take on worship, which is more invitation that I really need to chip in my two cents worth. It is ummmm a bit longish.

Worship is the act of creature giving reverence to Creator. The Greek verb proskuneo which is the dominant Greek word that is translated into the English "Worship" carries this interesting definition: a dog licking his master's hand.
