A friend asked me recently if there was a good Bible app I could recomend to her for her smart phone. I am not that savy with the smartphone/apps thing so I said I would throw it out in the Cafe for some feedback. As Len Sweet said we are living in a post-Google world, so a bible could be something contained on a smart phone as well as a book. Your help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

I know they're working on an app version of The Skeptics Annotated Bible (http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/) but I don't think it's ready yet.

Speaking from the Blackberry front (I carry a Bold 9780):
I haven't tried it out yet myself, but Bible from Lifechurch.tv has many translations available (including multiple non-English languages), is consistently among the top-rated free apps in Blackberry Appworld, syncs to YouVersion.com, and has Twitter and FB connectivity. I've been meaning to give a whirl but haven't got there yet.

Checked out BIble (YouVersion app for the BB) and it's quite a nice app. Easy to use, at least for basic browsing of scripture. Haven't really tried out the reading plans or note taking functions yet. Not sure which versions I actually want to download for offline other than the KJV, but it's been interesting checking into the differences in wording. Going to check back at the bible versions thread from a while back for ideas. So, if you have a BB and want to read the Bible on it, Bible is available free from Appworld and you can set up a YouVersion account from within the app. One proviso: it strikes me that the app, and apps like this in general, would benefit from the full screen on the Torch series BBs. It works fine on my Bold, but I can see where the bigger screen and even the touch capability might be an improvement.

Blue Letter Bible also has a pretty good app, but I use Laridian's Pocket Bible.
I'm not a fan of the KJV. I've had pocket bible since long before iphones, so own many digital bible translations. I like NIV, ASV, NASB. Probably use NIV the most as that is the version I usually listen to driving or relaxing.
There are several audio versions of the bible available for your phone through Audible. You can listen and read along. The best part about listening to the bible - if you have never read the whole bible - is that you are dragged along. You cannot get stuck - thinking about one verse. It just keeps plowing ahead. There are also quite a few dry spots, that could cause you to give up on reading the whole book, but again, a good reader can pull you through those spots. Typical audio bibles are 75 to 100 hours long and only run about $12 on Audible.
