My Predictions for the WC2 Council

On this date I have placed within an envelope here at home five predictions which I am making regarding the composition of the initial Wondercafe2 Council. I shall keep these predictions top-secret until after the first Council has been accepted and the first Chair announced, as I do not desire to sway the decisions to be made in any way. I look forward to revealing my predictions to everyone in the future. Rich blessings.

To ensure you are not accused of lying or cheating, you should send a copy to someone who is totally neural and can have no affect on the outcome. I suggest stephenbooth because he is the only person in the world I am aware of that will not be welcome at WC2. Banished for life, yet has committed no crime.

hmm, well, there are those who will be seen to have the wisdom and trust of the community.

 

They are folks who were nominated, accepted the nomination, and were also seen to have the skills.

 

If you wish to have an input to the moderation, you would have to begin by considering who should be nominated, then approach them.

 

So......if you predict an outcome fine.

If you predict an outcome with a negative attitude then, you are creating your own negativity.

 

Like anything, it is better if one participates.

Stephen agreed to play by certain guidlines and rules. When he failed to respect those guidelines and rules he was cautioned. When he persisted, he was warned. When he refused to heed the warning and adjust his manner of being present, he was excluded.

What an amazing God we have!!!

 

I am amazed that you can be a preacher of so many years, and yet God has not revealed to you the meaning of that passage. Incredible!!!

 

I am sure there are many thing left for me to learn too, and that is so exciting.

 

Anyway, grab a coffee, ask God to speak to you, and meditate on His word.

 

Read the passage again. Nothing new, right? Now read the passage above it and then the passage below it. Then read the passage again.

I expect that nobody will be surprised by the results.

 

Why?

 

Well because all of us, during our participation here have been building our own reputations.

 

When we were asked to nominate people for positions of responsibility all of those reputations come into play.

 

If I have consistently been a jerk then it would not be a surprise to know that the general membership consistently think of me as being a jerk.

 

If I have consistently been reasonable or thoughtful it would not be a surprise to know that the general membership consistently think of me as being reasonable or thoughtful.

 

Whether or not anyone might disagree with either position only affects how that one thinks and the reputation they assign to me.

 

And in return I'm thinking about how I have been treated by others or how I have seen them treat still others and I am forming opinions of my own..

 

Did I ask anyone if they would consider allowing a nomination to stand?

 

Yes, I did.

 

Were they agreeable?

 

Nope they were not.

 

Did I approach many?

 

No, I did not?

 

Why not?

 

Well, on Wednesday I came home to a dog in severe distress and  I devoted  much of Thursday and Friday to nursing that beloved pet.  He's 13 so it might just be his time a trip to the vets said that may not be the case.  It may be something very treatable.

 

The distress seems to be over but in the meantime he lost 1/3rd of his total body weight, was extremely weak and while I am encouraged he isn't out of the woods yet.

 

So I have been preoccupied with what I felt was actually more pressing.

 

Thursday another dog took her turn but I was able to spot the cause and apart from another day of cleaning up after an animal ejecting more from both ends than she was taking in from one we got that crisis under control.

 

And then on Saturday and Sunday I was busy doing Church work and making repeated phone calls home for progress reports on my beloved pet.

 

I expect that any of us could name several names that were nominated without having to think too hard or work up any sweat.

 

Of course we don't share the same perspective which makes those names so obvious.

George indicated that his quoted section of Matthew 18 justifies chucking stephenbooth into eternal outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. It does not.

 

“Let them be as a gentile and a tax collector to you” How did Jesus treat gentiles and tax collectors? He loved them.

 

Then the 100 sheep parable. The shepherd leaves the 99 to rescue the 1. Isn’t it an amazing coincidence that this is the same percent of inequality some are always angry about? And if the shepherd recovers the lost sheep, he will rejoice over it more than the 99 who had not gone astray.

 

When Jesus recommended that the rich man sell everything and follow him, to which the rich man walked away sadly, the bible says that Jesus looked at him and loved him.

 

Hating rich, or stephenbooth, homosexuals or evangelicals or atheists or liberals and tossing them into outer darkness is the worst and least Christian thing you can do. The consequences are severe if we do not forgive our brothers from our heart. The people we are most likely to hate are the ones we must love the most.

 

Lifetime ban... Lots of murderers pay a much smaller price.

A lifetime ban does seem extraordinarily harsh. What, then, might be more reasonable? Is there doubt in anyone's mind that stephenbooth deserved to be banned? No. In virtually every instance he has shown himself to be troublesome, and that includes in contact he has had with wondercafe community members both on and off of these forums. He could be given some kind of longterm ban, say a decade, in order to reform his ways. However, during that time he would lose interest in returning to the community. These things considered, I stand behind the ban given to stephenbooth.

 

Love him, in the Christian context of the word? Absolutely.

This is an area where people blow the Internet out of proportion. We are not incarcerating Stephen Booth. We are not restricting him from using the Internet. We are simply saying he isn't welcome at WC2, which accounts for slightly less than 1% of the total content of the Internet, and is, like WC1, not technically a public site so we can exclude whomever we decide.

 

The UCCan is now resorting to documenting Stephen's harassment. That's how bad it's gotten. Were some of us insulting toward Stephen? Yes. But we've never sought him out, or contacted him off the forum against his wishes. Repeatedly. Changing email accounts to get around filters. Over the course of years.

 

We aren't interested in placing a time limit. Stephen has not improved with time, so we have no reason to suggest that in X years he will be a positive member of a community. Stephen can absolutely rehabilitate his online reputation over time. I think we all hope he does. But as of now, there is no evidence that he even recognizes a need to change his approach to communication with others.

 

SnP, if you think we're being terrible and unjust, you and Stephen start your own forum. I'm completely serious. If you are so much more tolerant and merciful than we are, I would expect people to flock from WC1 to your site, where Stephen can post whatever he wants, as often as he wants. It sounds lovely.

It is his harassment of members offsite through various means (email, posting to blogs, etc.) that puts him over the line. If this was all about his WC posting history, then there will be a process for banned members to be reinstated (it will be in the next draft of the Code of Conduct). But he has shown that he cannot keep to the boundaries necessary for a forum to function. To wit, you do not hunt down people who disagree with you on the forum and start emailing them or harassing them on their blogs, or trying to bring grief down on them in real life. You keep it on the forum. When you start stalking people offsite, you cease to be a garden-variety troll and become an online menace. I don't want to deal with that as an admin (because I know another admin who is suffering from a similar beast) nor, I suspect, do either of the other admins or the soon-to-be-announced moderation team nor, I suspect, do most of the membership here.

 

As chansen suggests, if you want to be on a forum with stephenrbooth, then go find one that he has not been banned from and join it.

Mendalla, please reread my posts concerning this issue. Beyond the importance of loving stephenbooth in Christ, SnP and I are not exactly in agreement. As I have clearly stated, I support the banning of stephenbooth. Rich blessings.

That's fair comment, Jae. I tried not to lump you in with SnP. I also think I addressed your point that an indefinite ban is too harsh better than Mendalla did. I am, after all, a much better admin than Mendalla is.

But really, this topic is so overdiscussed. I expect Stephen will register, and who he is will become quite apparent inside of 5 posts, then his account will be banned. And then we'll rinse and repeat.

 

SnP, is Stephen interested in rehabilitating him image? Here's how you can help him: Tell him not to register at WC2. He knows he isn't welcome. If he registers, that shows he is not interested in respecting boundaries. That's not debatable. He can not register to argue his case. We've been over it all. The more he harasses us, the longer our memories will become. Mind you, they're already pretty damn long.

 

So, in the interim, do what Mendalla or I suggest and join another forum or start your own. Show the world that Stephen can listen and take part in a community where people disagree with him and even disagree with scripture, and he doesn't get all harassy and stalky in response. That'll demonstrate change. You taking potshots at us isn't helping Stephen at all.
