Admins are listed as available for nomination both as confirmation of their role, as well as a recognition that you may wish to nominate one or more of the current admins for a different role. 

What's spoken of here is the procedure for nominating others. Is the procedure for nominating oneself the same?

One should be nominated; thereby ensuring that you have the support of at least one other.

 

What you are referring to is volunteering.  If you would like to volunteer for a role, then, I recommend you place your name on ChemGal's thread.

In all seriousness, we can't do it all. Well, we could, but I don't think that's right. I'm not interested in being a moderator. The only thing I plan to remove is spam and banned members reappearing. I'm too controversial around here to act as a mod, and I know that. I'm going to avoid modifying posts as much as humanly possible.

 

So, consider who you think here is fair and around quite often, and has the respect of many, if not most members. Talk to them. Then get back to us.

 

Chansen, they nominated us as admins.  Theoretically should have asked first; however, given we are already stepped into the role, probably ok.

So the Admins will, at least in part, be operating as Mods? I don't remember that as a part of the job description. Will the Treasurer also be acting, at least in part, as an Admin or Mod? Will the Mods take on functions of the other roles? These kinds of things are important for us to know as we consider who to nominate.

There are certain functions which are only available to the admins. In a situation where no moderator is available and to deal with spam type accounts, an admin may be required to take action.

No it isn't, you're just being obtuse. As an admin, yes, I'd have the same abilities as a mod, plus the keys to the site itself. Big deal. If something Very Wrong was posted on the forum, yes, I'd launch it into the sun. But it's not my job to go around solving personal spats, and all I'm saying is that me wading in on disagreements would not be smart in the first place.

 

That, and I was reading into it that Hilary was nominating us for mods, when she actually wrote "admins". Still, we need to be discussing more people than Pinga, Mendalla, and myself.

 

 

It actually more than that. If our admins do their job they will try to achieve consensus on how the board is run, and failing that they should admin in regards to what the greatest numbers would support.  It is only when the board does not not have a clear majority would the admin actually be called on to decided.  For example, if I was a mod and deciding, I would not allow certain behaviour and allow others.   Best practice would require that I disregard my beliefs if there was a clear demand from the membrs for something different.  

 

So IMHO the first requirement for mods and admin, is the time and committement needed, and the ability (health, and freedom from other destractions) .

 

Second is the ability to listen and agreeing to strive for a consensus, or something close to it. (as consensus is usually unachievable.) 

 

You seem to have the time,(first and most important, as at the begining we will need mods and admin to spend the time to articulate their decisions, )  and the ability to listen to others, so I would say you are very qualified. You are also able to seperate what you like, and what 

For the record, It was quite clearly stated in the position description for the admin that admins' privileges are "All mod privileges plus..." and then listed the additional abilities. So it was very clear from the get go that we would have both mod and admin powers.

I know that you've explained it before - many times.  But I'm still not sure of the process for nominating.

 

Suppose for instance that I think that Johnny would be an excellent choice for moderator.  I've checked and she's been a member for two years and, after a six month layoff, she's been posting semi-regularly for the last six months.   What do I do now?   

 

Also, except for a very few, I that I might guess at (mainly the three who have been doing most of the work so far) I have no idea what various people's skills are or whether they would be interested.  Is there a thread where people can offer to take on a position and I could go from there.

 

A few years ago I would have been willing, and with a bit of a learning curve probably capable, of taking on one of the non-tech positions.  I am no longer able.

Ask them if they want to do it.

 

If they say, yes, they would be interested, then send their name in to wondercafe2adm

 

Admins will review eligibility.  For example, you may not know if they are banned, nor should you need to.

HOwevr one may just propose someone. So far Pinga Chansen and Mendale have been nominated for admin by a couple of people. None have accepted. CHansen states that he is reluctant (trans: he needs encouragement) Pinga and Mendala have yet to indicate if they accept (trans: they either are waiting for more encouragement, or they are unwilling to go first.

Since that's the case, it changes everything. I hereby rescind the nomination that I originally made, and will instead nominate chansen, Mendalla, and Pinga to the role of Admin.

Actually, we have noms for mods but they came in as private messages as Pinga requested in the OP. She's been monitoring it so I don't know how many we have at this point without checking. However, I'm not sure we have a treasurer nominated as of yet. Again, Pinga can say more since she's monitoring the admin Wondermail.

Jae, I am not sure why you insist making this thread about you; however, if no one has contacted you, it would imply no one has nominated you or that they have not followed recommendations of contacting the person they are nominating.

Just curious to know - have you received sufficient nominees?  Not asking for numbers or names, but wondering - is there any category we should focus our attention at the moment?   I did notice upthread a comment re treasurer nominees being sought - progress on that front? 

I think we are all out & about this weekend, so I wouldnt' anticipate any closure / decisions until early next week; however, quick thoughts are below.

 

1.  Yes, there are sufficient nominations for moderator.  We just need to select to ensure mix is appropriate and then plan for training.

 

2. Treasurer.  No one has sent a wondermail in regarding a confirmation of a treasurer.  Not a huge deal, if not done at cutover but would be nice.
