Most knitters & crafters would agree - working on an interesting project helps us feel good. Now there's some explanation for this, based on neuroscience! Seems it's good for the brain too - engaging lots of different brain areas in simultaneous activity.
Does this ring true for you? As an OT myself, and as someone with a lifelong engagement in all kinds of crafts, I do agree.

Hi Carolla,
Yes,indeed, I used to knit when I was a teen, sometimes all night together with a friend, finishing a sweater, talking , drinking tea.
Then I had family, didn't start knitting again until last year (30yrs later) when our congregation started a prayer shawl group. Especially because I hadn't knitted for so long, I felt the stress relief immediately. Sitting together as a group, talking adds to it.

Purposeful occupation-of course the 3 of us OTs agree. Where is Paradox3?

I think she's busy knitting today Tabitha
mrs.anteater - interesting to read your post ... I too got back to knitting when I wanted to make a prayer shawl & then started a ministry at my church - it's wonderful to get together periodically.
A woman in my prayer shawl group returned from South Africa recently - she said the local coffee shop has a knitting basket - people pick up & knit a few rows on a scarf while they are there, and then leave it for the next person to continue. The scarves are then donated to people who are homeless. I loved that idea.

Agreeing with my fellow OT's completely :)
I am pretty much a beginner when it comes to knitting, but I love it.

It probably all depends on what someone likes doing. I'm not much of a crafter, but I figure that doing puzzles would fit a similar idea, looking at the link it seems there they are other activities that aren't crafting that do the same.

Definitely chemgal - keep up the puzzling! Jigsaws? Crosswords? Sudoku? What's your fav?

Jigsaw has been a life long thing. I enjoy things like sudoku, ken ken and things like that as well.

A woman in my church knits hats - at home and whenever she has a free moment (before choir, waiting for her drive home, etc). She brings them to church by the dozens and puts them in our 'help-yourself' basket. I've gotten so I can spot her hats among the homeless in the downtown area - and I sometimes wear one myself.
