Is somebody singing?

I don't think that this has been posted or discussed here yet (I remember posting in a thread about it but I think it was on another board). This is the song that astronaut Chris Hadfield co-wrote with Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies. It is the first song recorded on Earth and in orbit and, beside members of BNL, features youth choir the Wexford Gleeks. In short - I love it. Bouncy, lively, and a beautiful reflection on the view of Earth from up there.

Gotta love how Chris plays with his guitar at the end. Chris Hadfield is proving to be quite the ambassador for the space program. Besides writing pop songs, he has developed strong following on Youtube and Twitter with his tweets and videos about life in orbit. He gives the impression of a fun-loving guy who just loves being in space (and, I suspect, it's an accurate impression).

Space - the final frontier.

For pop music.

Thank you for sharing that Mendalla! I heard Ed Robertson being interviewed about that song (by George Strombouloupoulous, I think) a few weeks ago, but that was before the song had been recorded. Happily, the song has lived up to my high hopes for it!

Thank you for posting this Mendalla.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  The photos posted by Chris Hadfield have been pretty amazing too.   It really does make us seem so small, doesn't it?

I actually heard the radio premiere on Radio 2 Drive (hosted by Rich Terfry). Apparently Chris now has a standing offer to join BNL but there's a condition - he has to wrangle Ed a trip to the ISS smiley. More seriously, Hadfield is actually doing more songwriting while he's up there with a goal of getting an album out of it.

I've just been reading up on the choir. They're quite a group themselves. They come from a performing arts high school program and won the first annual National Showchoir Championships in 2011 (and came second last year). Below is a performance from CBC Toronto's Sounds of the Season event (an annual fundraiser that the CBC folks put on).

How come there is no sound delay?

When news reporters interview people from far away there is always a delay in response.  How'd they get around this?
