I heard on the news today that someone reading from a tweet said that they voted Republican in the US until the party was taken over by "Jesus Freaks".
Anyone want to take a stab a telling us who they are?
Do you know any?

Hi crazyheart,
Anyone want to take a stab a telling us who they are?
The term "Jesus Freak" like any other term that is applied as a lable really depends upon who is applying the lable more so than who the lable is applied to.
Do you know any?
I know several who self-define as Jesus Freaks. Oddly none of them find the Republican party remotely attractive.
Are there some here in the Cafe?
I can think of one who would probably not hesitate or balk at the title Jesus Freak.
Grace and peace to you.
John

It feaks me out to be without light ...
For even the Roman brutes said that salvation was in the light of knowing ... then they didn't wish us to know ...
And ever since we've been in tha dark and piscine over the crap we've been fed as the higher ups decided we didn't wish to know---Exodus 20:19 personified!
You can find this in the darkness of the word ... but you have to carry your own torch cross ... into what's below the overlords as subliminal gravid material ... chiite they didn't wish anybody to know ... that higher ups passed ... as le gas Scie during the separation from their senses. They didn't know ferra art ... as something that comes from a blast and then implosion as one collapses into themselves for making a blast in public ... while we though no-one was observing and find there was a whole crowd there in the Shadow! Leds to irony and holes in the ma-eli-able brazzier ... a smoldering fire of contained ... manna get NG around ...
Some think that's A'line ... like a pitch for inverse niches ... a point of nob omei as a well-rounded point ... beyond the fey ordin antes as Canan of learning a payn oute ... or is that node-I-hear ... as un peaked!

I remember the Jesus Freaks from my adolescence. I think they were a loosely organized network of folks who rejected organized religion but embraced some of Jesus' radical teachings about inclusiveness, forgiveness and so on.

Among people I know Jesus freaks is a derogaTOry name for all Christans, just as Breeder is FOR for heterosexuals, faggots is for gay men, and so on. They are not meant to be comlemts, but many people take them on as a symbol of pride, and to remove their power to put them down.

Hi Alex,
I understand that Jesus Freak has evolved into a derogatory label of sorts, but it meant something different back in the late 60's/ early 70's.

Alex, some of the people you hang out with use broad generalizations. I've only heard of Jesus Freak used to describe a Christian when someone thinks they take something to the extreme (although that could be going to church every Sunday).
Breeders I've only seen used to describe people who have biological kids. Not heterosexuals in general.

I have never seen the word Breeders used in any of these contexts

Here's the wikipedia entry on Jesus Freak:
"Jesus freak is a term arising from the late 1960s and early 1970s counterculture and is incorrectly used as a pejorative for those involved in the Jesus movement. As Tom Wolfe illustrates in The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, the term "freak" with a preceding qualifier was a strictly neutral term and described any counter-culture member with a specific interest in a given subject; hence "acid freak" "Jesus freak." The term "freak" was in common enough currency that Hunter S. Thompson's failed bid for sheriff of Aspen, Colorado was as a member of the "Freak Power" party. However, many later members of the movement, misunderstanding the counter-cultural roots believed the term to be negative, and co-opted and embraced the term, and its usage broadened to describe a Christian subculture throughout the hippie and back-to-the-land movements that focused on universal love and pacifism, and relished the radical nature of Jesus' message. Jesus freaks often carried and distributed copies of the "Good News for Modern Man,"[1] a 1966 translation of the New Testament written in modern English. In Australia, and other countries, the term Jesus freak, along with Bible basher, is still used in a derogatory manner. In Germany, there is a Christian youth culture, also called Jesus Freaks, that claims to have its roots in the American movement."
So Jesus Freaks are awesome :3
Yours sincerely,

Breeders or broilers ...
Depends on time, space and light of the situation ... whether you're being knocked senseless by institutional crap ... or knocking some intelligence into a group that despises knowledge and claims that god is wisdom ...
Is this not a basic conflict in "the book" where one prophet says god is love and another says god is justice, humility and all that is to be encompassed .. allowing a sense of balance in abstract dimensions ... mortals have difficulty getting out-of ...
Could they be using thatoem to knock the senses out of you so they could pick up your treasure? Then po'folk have nothing to Luce but beans ... Legacy of what ...
That's gravid heh! If you know the light hidden in an occult system that that's dark and under your nose ... if you know enough to open it and peer at ID in depth ... sometimes massacres the emotions and alters words as how we listen out of fear of preconceived errs ... an old misconception that is laid on heavily to give rise to fear of what is ... and what isn't as displaced processing! Lucent tho'T or just sapient as a somnalent thing-heh?
Lucent; is that close to Lucifer, what some emotional people believe about thinking peoples ... consider the Roman version: "He thinks, heis dangerous!"
That's the heights of downs in the Moors ... upland fantasy where you could break-a-leg ... how it wends ... healing of a mind takes some time to dispose of emotions ... residual anon' tuff ... if you like your space ... chose oenoenism as it is irratically spelt ... leave it out ... no soil in the sole! Chi's left not thinking defunct ... passion is like that avoids tho'T!
Is there rheum for a balanced divale, a niche in time, sometime referred to as a tic Kain space ... mêmè chose? Ultimate metaphor ... conjunction ...
When it all gone there's nothing left but a point to think about with built up inertia ... from the odd falls ... bewitching waters leaves one mist Ai ... esteemed aslight being left out in the dark ... pure prose hung up between poetry and pro sache ...
Is it safe to say they put it together without knowing the dangers or how to make something out of nothing? That'setho'T ...

Growing up in California, the 1960s-1970s "Jesus Freaks" definitely had an important part in how and why I become a Christian.
This picture show Jesus Movement preach Lonnie Frisbee baptizing people in the ocean in Southern California. He's a fascinating character in the Jesus Freak movement: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lonnie_Frisbee
