Talk about unfocused! It 4:30 am and I 've just finished an article of the begining of of multicellular life 2 billion years ago and stumbled on this line
“When bacteria are under stress, it triggers their cooperation,” said biophysicist Eshel Ben-Jacob of Tel Aviv University. “Those that have to cope with a more complex environment show higher complexity.”
...and I thought to myself, "Self, that might be a good topic:
maybe the current stress and fear, war and hatred will force us all into being complex.
Individually and/or nationally, or man-kindishly." (I get wordy sometimes when I talk to Self)
How is that going to look- how soon: The Babel-fish is coming via Google Translation,
You'll buy a world-connected i Pad for 10 dollars...everyone on the planet will have one
How do you think we can cope with our increasingly conplex enviornment?
It's a quarter to five. I'm not going to worry about it 'till tomrrow., by which time you will
have thought of our future...and I'll get more sleep tomorrow...
Will life's weird begining have as weird an ending?
'night...

Yes, stress is conducive to growth, but too much of it can kill. It'll either make us stronger and more complex, or do us in.

Turn off the TV and take walk in the sunshine (without the iPod).
Interesting topic HappyGenius. I know that we've found that during disasters people tend to cooperate more.
Cooperation is the beginning of right human relations, isn't it? And right human relations is the core to brotherhood and sisterhood, concepts that were not really talked about before the time of Jesus.
Learning to cooperate and to live as one human family is our future.

Well, Nietzsche coudln't handle the stress of living, so he put a bullet through his head.
"God is dead."

"Nietzsche is dead."

I think positive stress makes us grow; negative stress makes us weaker and cowardly and sometimes suicidal.
So what is the difference between negative and positive stress?
Negative stress is imposed on us; positive stress is created by us.
Can negative stress be transformed into positive stress?
Yes.
How?
By thinking creatively.

This is irrelevant to the topic (so don't yell at me, please, it's too early), but your statement reminded me of the 'continued' graffiti:
"God is dead" - Nietzsche
"Nietzsche is dead" - God
"God is NOT dead." - Billy Graham
"Who is Billy Graham?" - God

Thanks for the continued graffity. Love it! I'll commit it to memory.
I wouldn't yell at you, retiredrev, no matter what you wrote. You are one of my favourite posters.

Let me be stark:
What if society had a firm tradition toward rape and the females who are raped are permitted to muder the rapist. What if there were no laws against it? How long would a society like that last? I will tell you. Four hundred million years.
(I just watched a documentry on spiders.)
How long have we been around? A few hundred thousand years?,,,
400 million for a pretty nasty, non-fun-loving civilization there.
I mean! Does that sound fair? Poor Mrs. Spider! Shame on you Mr. Spider! Now, shame on you Mrs Spider! You are so immoral, so bad, so wicked, you should last for 400 million years?
What?
(Our reporter was sent to get Mr. Spiders opinion concerning rape, but was eaten.)
Over to you, optimist!
