And, some very bright people are theists. I just don't see any bright theists claim to heal real illnesses and injuries by prayer. That's where I'm defintely not nice about religion, but go ahead and try to claim I'm like that with everyone.

 

And, as Arm alluded to, it's actually religion that claims to have answers it can't demonstrate. I claim far fewer answers than almost everybody else here. I've always said that it is far more honest to admit the things we don't know. I mostly just call bullshit when Christians claim things they think they can wish into existence.

Ok. You lamentably are the person you are...and I am, lamentably, the person I am.

I just don;t see any purpose in calling bullshit, I am interested in the different ways people think, delighted in the multiplicity of ways there are. Few religions have a commendable history but all contain some astute ideas. I believe, with Dr. Spong, that Christianity must radically change -- or die.

That one or the other will happen is probably a hundred years away...and so slides off my worry list.

Don't worry about flagging me. I'm collecting flags to redeem them for Air Miles. I mostly get annoyed when people flag posts I'm opposed to. I don't want those to disappear.

 

A flag is just a bat signal that gets Aaron out of his cave so he can repress his creative side and start deleting things wholesale. It took me two years to train him to delete posts instead of threads. Now I'm training him to delete individual problematic words inside otherwise fine posts. He's progressing, but he's not there yet.

 

As for calling bullshit, I understand that some people don't care if they're being lied to. That's a hard one for me to accept, but it's something I've learned here. For those of us who give a damn about passing along what we really know and filtering out the lies and exaggerations, religion can be both knee-slapping hilarious and bone-chillingly scary. I try to strike a balance between having fun with the former while kicking the shit out of the latter. If all I do is oppose the evil in religion, it gets depressing, fast. Thankfully, there is always something to laugh about here.

 

BS is fertile for thought ... like makes me ponder the stoics that can't move for nut'n ...

That, in your opinion they are liars. Not misguided, ignorant, wrong, but liars. In your opinion. And others don't and you feel the need to correct them by swearing at them and telling them that say, living some 30 years happily, led by beliefs you scorn, is a rotten idea.
