Fake Emails Going Out in WonderCafe's Name

Hi, We have just been made aware that somebody is sending out fake emails in WonderCafe's name. The emails come from the address WonderCafe@outlook.com. Please disregard these messages. They are not from WonderCafe or The United Church of Canada.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Thank you,

Aaron for WonderCafe

Thank you, Aaron.

One might also consider disregarding and deleting without opening. You can even add the address to a spam list. Clicking on links and opening attachments is not wise.

Also, the name is copyrighted and we've contacted Microsoft (owner of outlook.com) to report the misuse of the name.

Thanks for the warning and also for the discussion of this on FB. It seems to me that something needs to be done about the person who seems to be behind this. That being said, I have no idea what to suggest since persistence is at work there too.

Northwind,

I happen to agree.

We can debate to what degree and the level of danger, but most will agree that there is some mental health issue at play. This is beyond trying to get past a ban or anything

We can call it a nuisance and minimize the threat, but it is cyberstalking and now has been taken to the next level by cloaking the email address to still have contact.

I can say, without a doubt or moment's hesitation, that if I was still being contacted my decisions would be different than some have made. I would contact the police. Then again, I am heavily influenced by my work in domestic violence and my experience with those who have mental health issues of this sort.

Aaron cannot force people to come forward.

People who ignore do not document and do not report.

People tend to underestimate stalkers and cyberstalkers. The only way to end it is to either move away, go away or there has to be a consequence to their behavior. That typically leads to law enforcement. It can lead to dangerous situations.

Cyberstalking is a symptom or the foundation of a bigger problem, which is why it should be detected early and reported immediately.

I refuse to willingly be the person who says after the fact, "I didn't think they would...." whether it is about myself or anyone else. It is too damn common.

IMO and I will share it as firmly as I can, this person's behaviour could be viewed as dangerous behaviour.

But some will say that it is not Christian to say that, they will pray for them, etc. We should let them return and forgive them.

Others will say "it's no biggie" and think only of their own sense of safety.

I have given my opinion, take it or leave it.

This is Stephen again?

That seems to be the implication of some of the remarks, though I'm not sure what evidence there is to back that up since I haven't been the recipient of the emails in question.

If it is, he'll love to read this thread and know he is getting everyone in a tizzy. Why can't the UCCan learn and just ignore this guy? Send out a mass email explaining it and put out nothing publicly. Aaron, you're just feeding this guy.

Ignoring him by not responding to him is one thing and I agree with you on that (though SG is right, he's going too far in some cases and action against him may be justified). However, what Aaron is doing here isn't directed at him but is getting a warning out to us in case we are recipients of messages from the address. It is a responsible and necessary thing for him to do. For some people who are here and who aren't on FB, it is the fastest, most efficient way to get the message out.

Hi AaronMcGallegos,

The e-mails I received were from Wonder Cafe not WonderCafe.  That was a few weeks back through and they were promptly declared spam and if any new have been sent my spam filter caught them.

Grace and peace to you.

John

But of course (having gotten one of the e-mails some time ago).

Delete as spam.  Flag the address.  And certainly don't tell him heis messages are not welcome.  That seems to encourage him.

Bingo. Gord gets it.

He feeds on attention and energy. Give him none. Zero. Delete what he posts and say nothing back. Give thread and post deletion admin rights to a dozen trusted WC members, with instructions to delete his posts and disable his account on sight. Do the same thing that NYC did with graffitti artists - paint it over immediately and don't give them the benefit of seeing other's reactions, and they may lose the energy to deface your property.

But what the hell do I know? I've only dealt with dozens of cases of online gamers with superiority and persecution complexes.

Thanks folks. It looks like the email account has been closed. Chansen, I had to post something letting people know about this because I've been getting questions from several people about why WonderCafe is sending out these odd messages. I never named the sender here.
