I'm still confused as to what will happen with the result of this survey. Is somebody willing to take on the implementation of this resurrection?

Chansen, Pinga, and Mendalla are working towards setting up a forum we can go to once Wondercafe is closed Neo.  Aaron has said that a link direction people to it is something the UCCan is willing to do.

Short answer: Yes!!!!!!

Long answer: Pinga, chansen and I are the technical committee and now that we have a name and domain, we are moving on to finalizing software selection and a host (someone to run the server). At some point, we will need to add some more bodies to do beta testing, get trained as moderators, and so on. Eventually, we may want to set up a board structure of some form to handle non-technical stuff like fundraising. More news will be forthcoming as the project evolves. The three of us are meeting by email and phone regularly to plan things. This survey was part of that effort.

The current sites source code is old, custom and vulnerable, so they wouldn't turn it over, but, everyone is in agreement that it wouldn't be desirable.

Beta sites were experimented with various people trying out forum software and models and giving feedback.  There is a technical thread around which had some of those experiments links in it, though I think they all would be down now due to the test licences expiring.

I googled wondercafe2.ca and chansen's trial website came up, not active but still there. I see Wolfie posted on it once. Pinga also had a trial one that a few of us posted on but it was removed by management I believe.

One request going forward: If you are starting any new threads to discuss the new board, please put "WonderCafe2" as part of the Subject of the thread or at least as a tag. Will make it easier to follow and track them (and help promote it, of course).

Not Wondercafe Shmundercafe?????

If you enter www.wondercafe2.ca you will be redirected to the post by alex on www.wondercafe.ca on a new name for the cafe.  For those interested, the eventual redirection from www.wondercafe.ca to www.wondercafe2.ca is one of the items being discussed with the United Church of Canada.

If you do a search, you will see the www.wondercafe2.ca ; however, where you are sent will be the current www.wondercafe.ca site as above.

I have not noticed that a google or type will take me to chansen's or anyone's test site.  It's possible, just not happening for me.

The test site that I had was not removed by management.  Rather, when you do a beta test/demo of a site it defaults to be live for a few weeks. Once that time is up the site is removed.  I did not extend.  It is gone.

As indicated, a few of us were playing with forum software. the phpBB was one of the tests.

Re chansen's site, no problem,  its not my business but I was  curious. I just put wondercafe2.ca into google now  and I get chansen's index site as in your quote of mine above. I'm sure it will be  redirected or deleted when the new WC is in operation.

Interesting, and just shows how google can return different results.  i get hte same as you for wondercafe2 but for wondercafe2.ca  I get the other.

It really doesn't matter, as once the other site comes up, gets populated etc, it will soon rectify itself.

Okay, maybe I am not doing things right, but when I typed www.wondercafe2.ca in my address line I was able to access the whole wondercafe.ca site and post in the LPT.  Is this the same for everyone else?

Yes, someone already explained it somewhere.  The address has to lead to somewhere, and they chose that specific thread for now as a 'placeholder'.

I also get the old WC when I type the new WC2 in google and also chansen's trial thread if you scroll down on the google page.

I posted to  pinga about it. She said WC2 will be running properly and redirected from the old WC  when its a done deal so to speak.

Crazyheart, I think it is safe to say that we are aiming to get it on line as early as we can.  It is important to have a good transition.

True. I think we need a transition period where both forums are active, but most new posts are made to the new forum, which should happen because, well, that's where people will be able to converse about it as long as they want.

Alex made a great point that there is no use promoting an empty forum, so regulars who plan to make the transition need to move over when it opens. Once we have a critical mass of posts, then we talk it up to others. Have a great idea for a thread? Bottle it. Wait for the new forum to open. It won't be next week, but it will be well before this one closes. I'd finish my technical review of forum platforms and forum hosts tonight, but alas, I'm drunk.

You are making an awful lot of sense in your post . . . maybe you were less drunk than you thought :)

A transition period sounds like an excellent idea to me. Let WC function as the springboard for WC2. 

Some people can be oddly lucent while totally tanked.

No need to vote on this one. Transition is the only way to do this. A sudden cutover would be madness.
