Vancouver area Wondergathering Sunday June 29

Pinga is coming to town – let’s have a Vancouver wondergathering!

Date: Sunday June 29th

The plan:  Some folks will be gathering for worship at Dunbar Heights United Church (Richard Bott is the Minister). The service begins at 10:00 am. The address is 3525 W. 24th Ave, Vancouver (one block east of Dunbar St).

After the service, we will gather for a potluck picnic at Jericho Beach at 12:00. We will meet beside the Jericho concession stand and then picnic on the grass/park area to the west of the concession area. There is also the beach to explore, walkways to stroll on, a pond to wander around, an ocean to swim in, and of course, a time for visiting.

The Jericho Beach concession is beside Brock House at the end of Point Grey Road (not to be confused with the other concession stands further west along the beaches).

Bring a chair or blanket, food to share, and plate, cutlery, drinks for yourself.

There is a pay parking lot across from the Jericho concession stand (which is at the very end of Point Grey Road, just west of Wallace St). On a summer Sunday it will be very busy at the beach and the parking will be tight. There are also buses that will get you to Alma St and 4thAve, check the translink.ca website.

If the weather isn’t good, we will meet for lunch in a restaurant instead (details to follow closer to the date).

Please indicate here or send me a wondermail if you are able to join us for   a) the service at Dunbar Heights UC at 10:00 am   and/or   b) a picnic/lunch.

Hope to see some of you soon!

I won't be. Maybe another time. If anybody is going to be heading downtown later feel free to let me know if you want and I can meet you for coffee.

too bad Kimmio-thought you might enjoy a face to face meeting with some wondercafers.

I've met some before, and maybe another time in the future I can meet the rest. Just seems like now's not really a good time- a little awkward. I feel awkward about it...if it weren't for all the arguing, etc. I'd feel like I should go but am avoiding the awkwardness of it given that Pinga might feel better if I weren't there too but hasn't said so- I assume that's the case- it's all fine. No big deal. Another time. Otherwise I would. Like I said, if anyone's going to be downtown and wants to meet up- later that (not a morning person usually) or anyday, let me know.

You should go Kimmio,

I was going to send you plans for my tiger trap. All you need to supply is a machete and an old beach towel for camouflage. The rest should be readily available at Stanley Park.

A'Righty then... SnP my favourite 'tiger trap' for the beach is tiger ice cream...and one thing I don't do is blend into the scenery even if I wish I did. A couple of months ago I ran into someone who recognized me from kindergarten. We went to school from K-6. Unbelievable.

So, rather...You have a peace plan instead? I told Inanna awhile ago I might show up with a jar of olives and a small tree branch (no olive trees around here that I know of). Going on gecko's idea...I could go to toys r us and see if I can find some of those huge inflatable boxing gloves to take to the beach- winner gets the jar of olives...and some tiger ice cream?

Seriously, would rather meet for a coffee (or beer or whatever) and a chat with some folks than a lot of traipsing around town. I don't move very fast in the a.m., before noon these days I am unsteady on my feet, so that's a lot of busing around for me anyway. I could meet you later, or maybe someone could meet me part way somewhere? I am open to it as long as I'm not going to feel too awkward and embarassed, or noone else is...to be honest. PM me if you want.

What about a box of pigeons you could release in the restaurant? Painted white?

They'd probably poop in my soup, then fly away...

Oops! Wrong thread. Going back and forth.

Kimmio - I think you should go and meet the rest of the available folks at the Vancouver Wondergathering.  Meeting people in the flesh often helps us realise that they are great peple, not the ogres we have thought them to be.

Oh boy - I wish I could go!

I agree Kimmio, we're also meeting at Jerico Park.

That's actually a lot to carry on the bus, plus myself, all the way to Jericho- and I have to transfer!...maybe I will. Not sure. Maybe I'll come down just to say hi. Aren't there picnic tables in that area (not bringing a chair and can't sit on the ground for too long- seriously- big complainer right now I know)?

Don't at all mind bringing some food. Can't carry a chair. I have one available arm to carry with (nows about the time I wish I had one of those walkers with a basket and a fold down seat but I am not ready to accept I might need that. I don't except for special circumstances I hadn't considered). Can't sit on the ground for too long... Anyone going to be at Burrard or Granville Station that could transfer with me from there? PM me.

Is that the area where you enter for Folkfest? Or further down? Is Brock House the old English Tudor style clubhouse?

If I wasable to attend and you showed up with empty hands I'd welcome you anyway!  My guess it is about sharing time together and getting to meet each other - not an endurance contest.

I know. I want to bring food though...just picturing myself...feeling a little awkward just cuz...backpack loaded with food and dishes, cane in one hand folding chair in the other, getting on and of buses, shlepping all over Jericho trying to figure where Brock House is (we had some wedding photos taken at Jericho and half the wedding party got lost and never did get in the photos so it is easy even for people with vehicles to not meet up- it happened!)...it's a funny thought actually but in reality I'd be wiped by the time I arrived. Would be great...if someone is going to be taking the bus, to meet me at Burrard and go with me. Or...does anyone have an extra folding chair they can put in their car?

Hey, I just saw this thread.

(I do appreciate the tagging on wondercafe2..makes it easier to be called to a thread).

Kimmio, there is no reason that you should not be there, and every reason for you to go.

Hope you and as many others as can make it , do.

Kinda like when Pilgrim was in town, or Seeler before her, it was an opportunity to hang out with folks , share a laugh.  Hoping it is a nice day.

I'm trying to post a pic. I found on the  Five Oaks link maybe...?...I'm not 100% sure, I think the sideways person is Myst, middle I don't know..?....and I think pinga is the blonde on the right. Very nice happy pic. of all of you.

Oops...sorry, its in my  One Drive on Win 7. I can't seem to copy/paste it. Perhaps someone else has this pic. and can post it?

Hey stardust,....as a matter of privacy etiquette, you shouldn't post that and name people without permission (pinga's her avatar name but she still might want to keep pics private). Unless it was posted here, with people named, in the past. Then I guess it's public.

The pic.was already  posted public    here with names  on one of the archive  threads where the WC  people had gotten together. I've forgotten where I saw it. I captured it for the purpose of posting it on the WC again because I liked it. I don't think pinga or anyone  would be offended. Some pics. of more of  the Five Oaks gathering had also been posted but deleted over time.

I’m sorry I didn’t get back to this thread. I’m looking forward to seeing people next Sunday.

Kimmio – you can just show up. We’ll have extra chairs and lots of food. Don’t let the challenges of carrying things on the bus hold you back. The reason I suggested a chair or blanket is because it will be very busy at the beach and there are not many picnic tables in that area and it is quite likely they will be taken by the time we get there. Check out a map to see where the Jericho concession stand is – (east of the Folk Fest entrance). From the corner of Alma and 4th go down (north on) Alma St towards the water (past 3rd, 2nd etc). When you get to Point Grey Road, cross at the lights and go left (west). You’ll go past Hastings Mill Park which is on the corner, then the Royal Vancouver Yacht (and tennis) club, then Brock House (yes the old style tudor house) and the next thing on your right, at the end of the road, is the Jericho Concession stand tucked in past the trees.
