Oh .., that'd be great..peer communication with the added joy of an audience: sounds about like a coffee shop chat where the participants assume that other patrons just can't wait for their next ill-thought out 'real' world dramas...Sorta like voyeur texting on the latest concern-of-the-moment....no thanks. You gotta find another clergy person: what they're supposed to do is to be in touch with the community on a regular and deep basis and then present the results of their encounters as seen through a psychic or spiritual process so, you see, if the cleric is doing her/his 'job' then the 'yabbering away' actually includes your input from your participation in the faith community. If the 'sermon' time seems boring and meaningless without depth and out of touch with modern concerns perhaps that's exactly the kind of community you are presenting to the speaker as reflective of your world view.
You want preaching that matters?.....offer to preach or offer the preacher something to work with. Perhaps you might suggest to your preacher that next Sunday you and your peers will, during the 'regular' sermon/homily part of the service, will volunteer to share stuff from your 'real world' so that the rest of the congregation can see how you work your faith into your world and they can learn how they can do the same - THAT would be 'real' faith peer communication .. BUT you might discover that what you think is important 'don't mean nothing' to anyone else..
Good luck
how often are we subjected to a vicar's pre-occupation with how to cross the river tibus and making sure we have a gold coin for the ferryman to ensure our crossing to the afterlife
let's have more dialogue on the homeless down the road, the lack of affordable housing, the potholes in the streets whilst local counsellors enjoy junkets abroad on rates paid for ordinance....
why is it that the clergy have the sole preserve of yabbering away and boring us all to bits about stuff that don't mean nothing to us
why can't the laity get a go and have a bit of peer communication about stuff that concerns us and the 'real' world!
