My draft of the message for Sunday.

A cartoon in the Observer a few years ago showed Jesus riding a colt and a donkey, and muttering.  "The things I do to fulfill prophecy."

The United Church of Canada has written to Prime Minister Stephen Harper asking him to meet with Attawapiskat First Nation Chief Theresa Spence, who is now in the second week of her hunger strike. Read the letter here [PDF].

I am curious what people's thoughts are regarding barriers to participation and engagement in this site, especially as they compare to say other online communities or church communities.

I propose that

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the first apology offered to Canada’s First Peoples by The United Church of Canada. No, we’re not “there yet” because we’re still on the long journey toward seeing our apologies fulfilled in actions and in truth, healing, reconciliation, and right relations. It’s why we take opportunities to participate in the work of Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission as well our own Right Relations work.

I know this is a strange topic to post in relationships, but I think it falls into the "our relationship with the environment" catagory :P

How does The United Church “of Canada” contribute to the health and healing of Canada?

It’s been about a week since the end of the first national gathering of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Since then I’ve enjoyed joining the More Franchises: A Second Cup event where, among other things, I interacted with those “tweeting” in response to my sermon during the preaching time.

Wednesday’s Sharing Circle at the TRC (see earlier blog) also invited a former teacher to give voice to her difficult experience in a school in Saskatchewan. She arrived as a new, young teacher eager and ready for her vocation. Then she saw the dreadful basement room in which she and her students were expected to spend their days.
