The UCC at the 30th General Council, 1984
I have added a customized google search engine that will search emerging church themed blogs at www.accessiblechurch.ca.
This should help people find what other people in the emerging church movement find postings on any topic. Just go to the web site and in the box at the top right side where it says search this web site, click on the arrow next to it and select emerging church. Type in a topic like disability, Jesus, barrier and use your enter key.
You can also go to the theology page and find a box with emerging church search.
I think Gambling is bad. However on a small scale it is not that bad but on a large scale it produces a lot of suffering.
The UCC has a policy on Gambling which supports a boycott of funds generated from gambling, like the trillium fund. However in effect the church only boycotts gambling funds that come from government run casinos and lotteries. (Small scale gambling)
(From The United Church http://www.united-church.ca/economic/gambling)
Traditional reasons for opposition to gambling include the following:
On the Front Page of The Ottawa Citizen Today appeared this story. The Rev. Brian Cornelius, the minister at First United presided over the service.
Here is a 1 hour lecture by a women with Autism. She is a best selling author, and in this video explains how autism can effect people, and simply explains the complexness of Autism Spectrum Disorders. It is from my web page www.accessiblechurch.ca, where I have many sorter videos by people in the ASD explain how it effects them.
I have always have trouble explaining autism and aspergers (a common type of High Functioning Asbergers). Whatever I read seems to be vague. However I recently realised that there were a lot of Youtube videos made by children, teens, and adults with Autism, Learning disabilities, and Aspergers.
In researching resources for my internet site www.accessiblechurch.ca. I found some good information on the UCC website regarding a subject that has been debated about here and in other church forums about the need to ask permission or pay copy right fees in reproducing Voices and More Voices in different formats to make them more accessible to the blind, and others with perceptual difficulties including Autism, ADD etc.
Here is the link form the UCC web site.
I am starting a thread to create new or different ideas of how we can use Wondercafe to help with the resolution passed at General Council. I still have not seen it yet so if someone could post the link to it in text format I would appreciate it.
One of the themes running through the emerging church is praxis, that is the concept that we learn from people, particularly those we are tring to reach or connect with.
