Computer Problem Help

My keyboard randomly stops working.

I don't think it's a hardware issue, as restarting my computer always fixes it.  I've only noticed it occurring while using firefox.  It's not just typing, I can't change the volume using the keyboard, the screen brightness, etc.

Any way to fix this or at least avoid it from happening, other than getting a new computer?

It's a MacBook.

Computers suck

I have spent much of my day trying to figure out why an automated invoice generation program is crashing. Of course, it is providing minimal information to go on, so I'm mostly looking through the customers that it is supposed to generate invoices for trying to see what's wrong. It's only crashing on one of our branches, so it's probably some stupid, nit-picky little mistake in one of the records for that location.

Another IT big gun is gone

After the death of Steve Job last week, the passing of Dennis Ritchie has gone largely unnoticed outside of the IT community. And yet, in his quiet way, Mr. Ritchie was probably more important than Jobs, especially if you're a software developer or other IT insider. In short, Dennis Ritchie created the C programming language and, in cooperation with Bell Labs colleague Ken Thompson (now an engineer at Google), created the Unix operating system.

RIP Steve Jobs, 1955-2011

Shades of Jack Layton here, I'm afraid. Apparently his health was even worse than Apple was letting on. Steve Jobs, one of the pioneers of the personal computer industry, has passed away. While I've never owned one of his company's products, I've long admired what he accomplished in his now short life. The first personal computer I think I ever used was a friend's Dad's Apple II+.

Cool software features

I have the Google toolbar running on both of my home computers and there is a very useful feature in newer versions: anything that you highlight automatically gets put into the search box in the toolbar. So, if someone includes a bible reference in a post (e.g. Genesis 1:1-10), I can highlight it and click Search. Usually, the NIV translation of that passage from Bible Gateway is first or second in the search results and I can read up on the passage being referenced.

So, let's share our cool software features that might be of use to others.

Technology's Impact on Society - postive or negative?

Hi Everyone! I am conducting a survey for my psychology class. The topic is very debatable in today’s world. I was wondering what the impact new technologies have on our society, and I was also wondering what other people think about the issue. Do you think that technology is changing society? If so, is it in a positive or negative way?
