I had hope that I would, somehow, deepen a faith I was raised in and nurtured myself for many years. After a period of searching other faith traditions, a deep disillusionment with Christianity, I returned again about 8 or 9 years ago, this time with a different openness and far less literalist interpretation of the traditional teachings. I was never a literalist or a fundamentalist (except as a child raised in the Roman Catholic Church). Over the past 8 or 9 years, I struggled mightily to find a way to believe.
The Selfish Giant This children story by Oscar Wilde is wonderful for many reasons. Those who grew up in the seventies and watch TV will remember it was played every Christmas. It the story of a Giant who learns the value of community. he is redeemed when he helps a child, smaller then all the others, and unable to climb a tree. He later discovers that the child was the risen Christ.
I am a fairly random poster but I be sure to visit (lurk) every day. I have been a member for several years and have seen people come and go.
I love Wondercafe! The diversity of people/experiences/viewpoints. The thoughtful and engaging discussions. The silly, lighthearted play. Even the controversy, heated debate and trolling. I see this forum as a microcosm of society. We are accepted (mostly) as we are and for what we have to offer. This is truly a COMMUNITY. It is the only (church-ish) community I belong to.
