Story:  The Reluctant Seed

Perry was a pea seed who talked daily with his friends.  There was a legend that they would be buried in the ground and that strange things would happen to them, so strange it was like dieing. Perry said he wouldn’t change, no matter what!

Spring came, and Perry and his friends were planted in the cold ground.  After a few days, one friend after another said, “So long friends, I am changing.”

Grace

On another thread someone has posted that churches offer grace. Wil someone explain how churches do this?

Why say grace?

Our ancestors sat down at their kitchen tables and thought, “Thank God, we get to eat tonight.”

We don’t have to do that, so we are losing our reverence for food.

I grew up on a farm. Many times I’ve been asked, “How could you eat a cow that you knew?” The answer is: reverently.

sermon for Jan 23 - Repentence

 The Unexpected Road of Repentence

Text: Matthew 4:12-17
Preached by Rev. James Murray at Dominion-Chalmers United Church,
Jan 23 2011.

For over two hundred years, scientists struggled to understand the nature of light. When they tried to measure it as a wave, it appeared as a wave. When they tried to measure it as a particle, it appeared to be a particle.

Thoughts About Calvinism (And Theology In General)

There is much discussion about Calvinism on the boards. I've spent the afternoon doing some reading and reflecting, since, for now, my family's out of town and I have the whole house to myself. I don't call myself a Calvinist - partly because I wouldn't completely qualify and partly because I think it starts to fall into the trap Paul refers to in 1 Corinthians (you know - some follow Paul and some follow Apollos; or - today - some follow Calvin and some follow Arminius (not the one on this board - although he may well have followers :-) and some follow Borg and some follow Vosper, etc.

Addicted to being Sinful

I was going to post this in Rita's Repentence thread but as I wrote it I realized that it probably should be separated since it's kinda the opposite tack to her intent.

Here's part of a note from waterfall in that thread:
