Rising with the Morning Star Lenten discussion - Week 1

"Rising with the Morning Star invites us to move out of the depths of ashes to the heights of Easter, where we can experience the heart and wholeness of all. In this journey, we travel with and toward Christ, the Morning Star, and so participate in God's abundant healing of soul, community, and creation."

Moderator's Lent 2011 Video Message

Dear Friends in Christ,

As I walked through the Garden of Gethsemane last week, I was weary. Full days and nights of meeting with church partners and others in Israel-Palestine had meant moving daily among armed soldiers, through checkpoints, sitting and listening to apprehensions, deep longings for peace and justice, and courageous work. I felt both full and empty.

How does your church commemorate Lent?

From the United Church Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/UnitedChurchCda):

"How does your church commemorate Lent?"

We would be interested in hearing how people are marking this liturgical season in their congregations.

Thanks,
Aaron

Lenten book discussion coming soon

Hi Folks,

You may have noticed the banner at the top of the site about the upcoming Lenten book discussion. We're now one week from Ash Wednesday, so I wanted to invite you to participate in the discussion and ask you to invite others as well.

The book being discussed is Rising with the Morning Star, which is edited by Betty Lynn Schwab and focused around the Moderator's theme of God's healing for soul, community, and creation. It offers daily reflections for each day of Lent.

Moderator Mardi Tindal's blog: Soul, community, creation through Lent

When Betty Lynn Schwab asked how I would feel if she adopted “God’s healing of soul, community, and creation” as the focus of this year’s United Church Lenten devotional book, I was delighted. The biblical reflections and prayers of eight extraordinary writers now offer us an unprecedented opportunity for shared spiritual practice and theological discussion on this theme using this book, Rising with the Morning Star.

We invite you to join us for  a new Lenten book discussion here on WonderCafe!

Ash Wednesday (March 9) to Easter Sunday (April 24)
