Thought this should be a separate thread.
Opening ceremonies might be interesting.

There is not much I can do about Russia, the Olympics and the GLTBQ community except support them by flying the rainbow colours.
Would you like to join me?
I was just taking a break & turned on the Olympics - a women's handball match (Korea vs Spain) is in progress. I've never seen or heard of this game being played in Canada - are there any areas here where it's a familiar sport? Has anybody played it?
What are your thoughts on the disqualification of four pairs from the olympics for trying to lose at badminton in order to be more favourably placed later?
I think that it is time to stop the big events( especially the Olympics) if as London is deciding to put missiles on Roof Tops. Our world is getting wonky!
I have been away from WC for a while. I had to do a paper and write one mid-term. I then got out of the habit of checking out WC as it was distracting me from focusing on my courses. I am taking a course on Economics and Ethics, and will be blogging and posting about some interesting things I am learning. Especially concerning the latest Christian /RC thinking on Economics.
Ok. Some of you might have heard that Vancouver, BC, is hosting some event.
Where ordinary people come from all over the world in order to compete in various events.
So I'm here and have known aboot it for quite some time now. The local media reports run the gamut from cost overruns and 'Free Speech Areas' to the Olympic Torch's travel and the new streetlamps that have been put up in some places.
Anyone going to the venues?
How many will watch at home?
What will you watch?
is it a waste of tax payers dollars or is it a showcase for canada?
This has been bothering me for a while now and I want to ask the opinion of some others attending General Council 40 in Kelowna.
Over the past few years (having been accelerated in the past few months), the Vancouver Olympics have overtaken the city of Vancouver and the province of BC (and much of the rest of Canada, in the form of advertising campaigns, etc.). But while most Canadians are reveling in the attention the world will soon focus on our country, injustice and discrimination and racism bubble just beneath the surface.
I've been toying with this idea for a while now and need to get it out.
