The Ministry and Employment unit is working with Stephen Fetter, program coordinator with United in Learning, to develop continuing education web seminars about your pension plan.
We anticipate that these seminars will highlight the plan’s structure and the challenges faced by our plan (and other plans), as well as how the changes will build sustainability into the plan for the long term. The planned broadcast dates are in November, at various times:
In just over an hour, Ministry & Employment will host another montly Pre-retirement Seminar. Join us last minute (you can!) to get an idea of what it's all about!
Details for joining the conversations are here:http://www.united-church.ca/minstaff/pension/seminars
Of course, when you contact us in advance we can give you the hard copy details and we'll send you your most recent Pension Statement* with the presentation information.
For all members and treasurers that were asking, the Pension Calculator has been fixed, although it has not incorporated the changes coming in January 2013 yet.
The best information about how the upcoming changes will affect your pension benefits at retirement will be the Pension Statement, due to be sent to Active Members in June.
Benefits will not change for members currently recieving a pension benefit (retired members of the United Church's pension plan).
"...It has become clear that the current design....is not sustainable."
"The combined contribution rate....does not pay...."
"Even maintaining the current accrual rate....is not sustainable."
"In fact, providing full inflation prottection under most scenarios is unaffordable"
Hi All: Just a quick note to say Ministry and Employment is on Twitter!
Follow M&E for updates on information posted on United Church of Canada sites, such as WonderCafe, www.united-church.ca, and ChurchLeadershipNet (CLN).
@uccan_mande (also UCCan_MandE)
I also retweet information from around the web on:
-pensions, benefits, human resources and like issues
-retirement, phased retirement, planning for retirement, managing retirement
Please be aware that this email (below) was sent to a number of ministers in the Maritime Conference. The ministers contacting the HR office are not aware of who this group is and were not at the Tatamagouch Centre presentation.
Pre-retirement siminars are educational sessions on how the United Church benefits plans change once you've retired.
To hold a pre-retirment seminar in your area, please contact your presbytery pension convener or your Conference personnel minister to get the ball rolling.
The following seminars are confirmed with the Human Resources Unit as of Sept. 15, 2010:
November 3: Hamilton Conference Office, Hamilton, ON. Contact Rev. Jenny Stephens, Conference Personnel Minister, 905-659-3343
